CSCI Consulting is seeking a Systems Architect Specialist. This position will be part of a team responsible for supporting an agency assisting in the strategic direction, planning, system architecture, and long term solution software and hardware requirements. Consultant is responsible for a variety of networking and daily system management activities related to IBM Power Systems architecture and administration on the i5/AS400

 

Minimum Requirements

 

  • Advanced knowledge of installation, maintenance, and configuration of i5 products and system operating systems;
  • Advanced knowledge to design, code, test, debug, and document i5 components;
  • Advanced knowledge to architect and administer i5 components;
  • Thorough knowledge in information technology equipment, operation, and capabilities;
  • Thorough knowledge in the use of tools and utilities to perform the system work; COBOL interactive RPG, CL Programming;
  • Thorough knowledge in performance and tuning techniques;
  • Ability to work on data synchronization and other issues between i5 and IBM mainframe system.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with others;
  • Ability to develop and execute system backup and recovery procedures and plans;
  • Ability to work with other information technology support staff to understand software requirements.
  • Ability to work with clients to understand their needs.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain a positive relationship with customers and other vendors.
  • Demonstrated ability to comply with data standards and policies.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Professional presence is required.

Duties of Position

  • Completion of the i5 consolidation project including back up, testing and supporting in house servers;
  • Installation of IBM i and configuration of a system, understanding and managing LPAR and virtualization technologies (including VIO), managing servers and system updates and fixes, managing internal storage, networking, and system security;
  • Monitors the integrity of all solution components, implementing enhancements to improve the reliability and performance of the system;
  • Responsible for testing, debugging, and documentation used to support the development lifecycle processes (configuration, development, release, and disaster recover management);
  • Elicit IBM assistance for strategic direction, upgrades, performance discussions and issue resolution;
  • Responsible for ensuring I5 tools meet with the overall operating structure; may include sophisticated file maintenance routines, telecommunications networks, and computer accounting;
  • Responsible for quality assurance reviews of the i5 solutions;
  • Evaluates new and existing software products that may complement the existing environment suites;
  • Confers with department management to assist in planning, organizing, and controlling activities of assigned area;
  • Develops/maintains detailed documentation for the System changes.
  • May perform as team lead or project manager in assigned area;
  • May oversee multiple projects or project phases;
  • Mentors and provides guidance to new and lower level staff
