Position at Coastal Pacific Food Distributors

Coastal Pacific Food Distributors is seeking a highly organized and detail‑oriented Logistics Specialist to support our international and domestic operations. This position is responsible for coordinating customs clearance, ocean shipments, air freight, and inland transportation, ensuring that all goods move efficiently, accurately, and in full compliance with regulatory standards.

The ideal candidate has strong communication skills, a deep understanding of global logistics, and the ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
Range of Pay:
  • Starting rate of pay: $25.00 to $30 per hour

International Logistics & Customs
  • Prepare and review customs documentation: commercial invoices, packing lists, BOLs, AWBs, and certificates of origin.
  • Coordinate import and export clearance with customs brokers and regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with CBP, TSA, FMC, BIS, and international trade regulations.
  • Maintain accurate HTS classifications and trade requirements.

Ocean Freight Coordination

  • Book shipments with USTRANSCOM ocean carriers through SDDC.
  • Track containers from origin to destination, monitoring vessel schedules and transit times.
  • Resolve exceptions such as rolled cargo, port delays, and missing documentation.
  • Manage and monitor demurrage, detention, and accessorial charges.

Air Freight Coordination

  • Arrange air shipments based on lead‑time requirements.
  • Track air freight milestones from pickup through customs clearance and final delivery.
  • Analyze cost factors, including dimensional weight and fuel surcharges, for the CONUS inland transportation.

Inland Transportation

  • Schedule LTL, FTL, intermodal, and specialized transportation as needed.
  • Coordinate port and container pickups, returns, and appointment scheduling.
  • Monitor carrier performance and ensure on‑time delivery.
  • Minimize detention, chassis charges, and other accessorials.

Communication & Coordination

  • Serve as a key point of contact for carriers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Provide shipment visibility, ETAs, and updates to internal departments.
  • Assist with vendor relations and negotiate competitive rates when applicable.

Reporting & Data Accuracy 

  • Maintain accurate shipment data in systems.
  • Prepare logistics reports including transit performance, freight costs, and KPI metrics.
  • Audit freight invoices and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications
Required

  • 2–5+ years of experience in logistics, international shipping, import/export, or freight coordination.
  • Knowledge of customs regulations, ocean freight, air freight, and domestic transportation.
  • Understanding of INCOTERMS and international trade documentation.
  • Proficiency in WMS systems and carrier platforms.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Preferred
  • Experience with global freight forwarders and customs brokers.
  • Familiarity with HTS classification and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, deadline-driven environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in office or warehouse environments.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 30–50 lbs.
