Position at Coastal Pacific Food Distributors

The Sushi Category Manager is responsible for developing and executing sushi category management initiatives at 11 military commissary locations and 3 retail operations.  The Category Manager is considered to be the subject matter expert for product sourcing, menu development, product pricing and merchandising strategies.  The Category Manager works closely with retail operations to drive sales and manage the overall category.

Salary: 
  • Range $80,000 to $105,000
  • Discretionary Yearly Bonus

Duties of a Category Manager include:

  • Maintain knowledge of current market trends and insights regarding sushi products and the category.
  • Create and develop short- and long-term plan and strategy for development of the category.
  • Provide guidance to sushi operations (e.g. setting and executing production plans) with regional managers and sushi operations managers.
  • Work with operations to set and achieve goals for production requirements, sales targets, labor requirements, merchandising and salvage.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers.
  • Achieve category excellence and sales relative to competitors.
  • Lead category management initiatives to promote products, increase sales, and launch new items.
  • Travel to locations and work alongside sushi managers to provide coaching and training on best practices that improve all aspects of the operation.
  • Develop strong working relationships with sushi managers and regional managers.
  • Identify, develop and cultivate strategies to expand the number of sushi retail operations in target markets.
  • Maintain current HACCP, Sushi Operations manuals and other sushi category management and operational documents.

The ideal background of a Category Manager:

  • Previous sushi category management or sushi operations experience preferred
  • Ability to analyse data and develop conclusions to support category decisions based on data is essential; being good with numbers is essential along with good intuition about the category itself
  • Strong people skills and ability to quickly establish a rapport with a wide variety of people from diverse backgrounds
  • Previous experience and knowledge of a retail environment is preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail is essential
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to accommodate irregular and sometimes long hours to communicate with staff in Asia
