SUMMARY

In-house Landman position, with additional responsibility for supervising all aspects of Land for a particular area. Identify and coordinate the evaluation/consummation of oil & gas acquisition opportunities and divestitures.  Prepare and negotiate purchase and sale agreements, assignments, exhibits, exploration/JV agreements, closing documents and all other related documents.  Coordinate due diligence activities in data rooms and in the field to determine ownership/defects, contractual rights, environmental issues and regulatory matters.  Provide Lease Records, Accounting, Marketing, Operations and Lease Administration Departments information on ownership, contract provisions and other data to ensure proper transfer and internal lease records and well ownership set-up. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform high level functions of the Sr. Landman position (including working specific prospects and wells for exploration, exploitation, A&D, trades, etc.).
  • Monitor and move forward all land and legal matters within the designated area.
  • Supervise subordinate Landmen and support personnel working within the designated area.
  • Present activity and status to various committees.
  • Identify and act on key concepts, ideas and opportunities for the Company.
  • Keep Regional Land Manager, VP, and SVP of Land informed about ongoing land matters in the region.
  • Analyze any land problems/issues and recommend solutions to Regional Land Manager, VP, and SVP of Land.
  • Assist SVP, VP, and Regional Land Manager with all facets of acquisition and divestments of existing properties.
  • Monitor all available acquisition opportunities and solicit new acquisition opportunities within the Company’s areas of interest.
  • Coordinate the evaluation of identified acquisition and divestment opportunities with the appropriate departments including Geology, Operations and Reservoir Engineering.
  • Coordinate the management approval process to secure the appropriate authority to purchase and sell existing properties.
  • Coordinate the marketing and sale of identified Company owned properties using in-house efforts or outside agencies as directed.
  • Negotiate, draft and consummate all necessary purchase and sale agreements, assignments, exhibits, exploration/JV agreements, closing documents and all other related documents associated with acquisition or divestment of existing properties.
  • Coordinate due diligence activities in data rooms and in the field using company personnel, outside contractors and attorneys to determine ownership/defects, contractual rights, environmental issues and regulatory matters relating to properties being acquired.
  • Coordinate with appropriate departments including Lease Records, Division Order, Operations, etc. to build and operate data rooms and virtual data rooms relative to properties being divested.
  • Advise all Departments of acquisitions/divestitures and ensure the particulars of the acquired or divested interests are accurately reflected in CLR systems for marketing, lease admin, operations, regulatory, maintenance and accounting.
  • Effectively communicate with management as to all matters in an easily understood format.
  • Interact with peers in other departments to facilitate teamwork, moving projects forward, problem solving, and overall Company growth and improvement.
  • Ensure there is effective interaction between Landmen, Land Techs, and administrative group.
  • Follow all Land Department and Company operating procedures and policies, and insure all subordinate personnel are doing the same at all times.
  • Make recommendations to the Regional Land Manager, VP, and SVP of Land for process and system improvements within the Land Department and Company. Supervise numerous in-house Landmen and Land support personnel, including contract land and legal personnel.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university and minimum of 10 years in-house E&P/A&D experience with a mid to large independent or major required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise numerous in-house Landmen and Land support personnel, including contract land and legal personnel.
