Coordinator, Right of Way and Construction

Job Summary       

Responsible for negotiating, drafting and securing execution of agreements and tendering compensation relating to land surface operations conducted by the Company, such as drilling wells, construction of operation facilities and laying of pipelines. Responsibilities include coordinating others’ performance of similar duties in some remote locations.


  • Include the following plus various other duties that from time to time may be assigned, which are carried out individually, through the supervision of third party contractors and/or in conjunction with landmen, engineers, geologists and other Company personnel:
  • Prioritize, assign, and supervise the work of project field staff, as well as doing a substantial amount of field work in conjunction with managing the day-to-day right of way office operations.
  • Determine ownership of drill site locations and confirm that statutory notice requirements are met.
  • Coordinate timing and status of surface use agreements and permits for Drilling and Production operations.
  • Contact landowners, negotiate agreements with landowners to settle damages for roads, wellsites, water use, pipeline and other surface use matters for land and right of way.
  • Through the use of third party contractors, supervise the surveyed placement of wellsites, pipeline rights-of-way and other Company surface operations.
  • Obtain required inspections, permits and approvals from local, state and federal regulatory agencies and any required private entities such as railroads, etc. relating to Company surface operations.
  • Mediate and resolve issues that arise between landowners, agents and subcontractors and maintain regular communication and effective working relationships between regulatory and public entities and subcontractors to ensure optimum project coordination.
  • Maintain and update files of rights-of-way, easements, damage agreements and other documents relating to Company surface use matters.
  • Must be able to work independently, accept responsibility, as well as beginning, running and successfully completing large, complex acquisition projects on time, within budget and schedule constraints and with a minimum of problems and disruptions

Essential Functions:

  • The right of way and construction coordinator communicates clearly and effectively with other Company employees, management, engineers, architects, and citizens both orally and in writing for the purpose of coordinating right of way activities and sharing information.
  • Provides information to Management and external contacts.
  • Coordinates meetings with other departments and external agencies regarding the Company’s right of Way.
  • Prepares documents and reports using clearly organized thought, proper sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar for various users. Exercises independent judgment and performs the physical requirements of the position.


  • Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in: Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Planning, Real Estate, Business Administration, Energy Commerce or a closely related field.
  • Experience in engineering, construction and / or maintenance of infrastructure, and / or utility projects.
  • Five or more years of field or in-houses right of way or land experience.
  • Valid state driver’s license
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. from time to time
