At Collinear Networks we’re growing our Modeling & Analysis capability as we develop leading edge wireless telecom platforms. In our dynamic, fast-paced environment, the ideal candidate to lead our Modeling & Analysis group will be high energy, resourceful, and skilled at data analysis and system modeling/simulation.  Hands-on experience modeling advanced telecommunication systems is essential.  The ideal candidate would have expertise in three different technical areas:  RF terrestrial links, Free-Space Optics (FSO) links, and advanced queuing and switching theory.  This is an opportunity to build a group of experts with deep technical knowledge and practical experience supporting a new telecom platform which will help define the future of wireless networking.

 
Opportunity

Reporting the to the Chief Technology Officer, this position will build and manage our Modeling and Analysis Group.  The group plays a critical role in understanding the effects of the physical channel on our hybrid transmission system and the resulting system performance in various locations and weather conditions. You’ll lead the efforts of the Modeling & Analysis team to model our RF system, optical system, and switching system; create physical channel models that simulate real-world environmental effects; build and refine a statistical model to predict system performance; and validate the model against data collected from various geographic locations. You’ll support software development and Integration and Test (I&T) by developing channel emulators and helping them understand how transmissions will be disrupted by different channel effects. You’ll work closely with our switch architecture team providing inputs on architecture that will help optimize our system design.  You’ll also work closely with the product management, software development, and sales/marketing teams to develop a tool that can be used to forecast the performance of our system anywhere in the world. You’ll be working with leading edge technology, with multiple subsystems developed by the Collinear team and our technology partners. This is a chance to not only help develop the necessary model(s) and deliver an exciting solution, but also to be part of defining the culture and capability of the company.

Qualifications

Required

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, or Mathematics
  • Experience modeling/simulating signal processing, RF communications, optical communication systems, and network switching. The ideal candidate would have experience in all these areas, but at least two are required.
  • Recent experience analyzing data and developing system models
  • Strong MATLAB/Python/C/C++ skills
  • Understanding of RF and Optical link budgets using higher order modulation
  • Advanced knowledge of probability theory and random processes

Desired

  • Management experience building and managing small technical teams is desired. We will also consider senior level individual contributors who desire a transition into a management role.
