Business Development Manager

Certain Affinity is seeking a smart, driven self-starter to join our growing company as a Business Development Manager. 

In this role, you will be responsible for building, fostering and maintaining business development relationships on current and future games. You will work with the senior leadership team to identify opportunities for a broad range of business needs while also providing project management oversight across multiple products and teams including forecasting, developing KPIs, budgeting, external partner relations, and internal communications and planning.

The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of developing and maintaining business relationships, IP licensing, negotiating deals from term sheet to close, building strategic partnerships, and supporting a development team to deliver on commitments. Additionally, this role is a member of CA’s extended business development team, assisting with strategy development and partner relationship management. We are looking for a person with experience in game development, platform relations, IP licensing, analytics, project/business management, and publisher relations.


Business Development

  • Build and maintain an extensive network of relationships across the industry with existing and new partners in support of company initiatives and needs
  • Maintain industry awareness and expertise, including tracking and sharing competitive, product, and technology trends
  • Identify potential vendor/outsource/co-development partners to support and expand both on-site and off-site development
  • Communicate with advisers and stakeholders at all stages of the deal negotiation process to secure buy-in, input, and approvals
  • Participate in critical events such as product launches, tradeshows, industry events, and press meetings

Project Management

  • Develop business strategies, models, and frameworks to help address key business opportunities and challenges
  • Own the ongoing rhythm of the business for your projects including budget, forecasting, production tracking, and communications
  • Collaborate with project leadership to define and be accountable for the strategy and execution plan to create and operate games that balance creative, business, and player-first execution
  • Manage and mentor a Game Product Management team, growing their skills and knowledge while hitting game Retention, Acquisition, and Monetization KPIs
  • Work across disciplines and teams to build the structure and processes that enable the creation and operation of successful live services
  • Build connections and own communications across various teams across the company with a goal of building a shared perspective on strategy and priorities; drive alignment where necessary to move the business forward
  • Coordinate and support face-to-face partner and vendor meetings with senior management and top Executives

Contract Negotiation

  • Assist with developing a negotiation strategy and act as a negotiator in business terms and partner business discussions, as assigned
  • Research and provide data and intelligence on partners to inform negotiations
  • Lead the creation of pitches and proposals for partnerships to secure opportunities
  • Work with the leadership, business development, development, and legal teams to craft term sheets and extended agreements

Partner Management

  • Act as a strategic business point of contact for development work with partners and publishers
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with partners to ensure contract compliance and the ongoing fulfillment of commitments
  • Track, document, and report on the status of the business development pipeline
  • Evaluate and report on business performance from a long-term strategic and financial perspective
  • Broadly build, foster and maintain a variety of long-term partner relationships


  • Broad knowledge of the game industry and passion for video games and game development
  • Strong focus on customer service and cultivating business relationships
  • Solid experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and dealing with external and internal clients
  • Proven ability to anticipate problems, exercise excellent judgment, and work proactively to resolve issues
  • Valid passport with the ability to travel frequently and internationally
  • Strong experience successfully negotiating contracts from term sheet to final long-form agreement
  • Clear, concise, and effective written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinker
  • Proficient in quantitative analysis, including the ability to model game parameters using Excel and business intelligence tools
  • Resourceful self-starter able to self-manage and prioritize effectively
  • Highly organized with impeccable attention to detail
  • Minimum 6+ years’ experience in relationship management and business development
  • 10+ years of business experience in technology or software development
  • BS/BA in business, marketing, finance, analytics, or equivalent experience; MBA preferred

 Extra Credit

  • Experience working, partnering and fostering productive relationships with established brands and IP holders
  • An understanding of market trends, business models and customer preferences across all genres, platforms, territories and demographic
  • Bilingual in Mandarin
  • Previous experience working in the games industry as a business development lead
