The Assistant Pharmacy Manager is responsible for overseeing and directing all day-to-day activities affecting the people, operations, productivity and output of the pharmacy.  Supervision of the overall pharmacy operations and staff is the responsibility of the Assistant Pharmacy Manager.  The Assistant Pharmacy Manager must ensure that the pharmacy operates according to company policy, professional standards, and provincial and federal laws.

  • Complete scheduling of pharmacy operations staff members (i.e. all regulated and non-regulated staff)
  • Review and approve staff vacation and leave requests
  • Generate and maintain on-call scheduling in concert with the Pharmacy Manager and Regional Directors
  • Document payroll and human resource related items as applicable
  • Collaborate with the Pharmacy Manager to ensure that day to day operations of the pharmacy dispensary are completed
  • Create memos/communications to homes and communities regarding time sensitive issues
  • Oversee drug recalls with the Pharmacy Manager, Regional Director, and inventory management staff
  • Oversee incident review and analysis program including the completion of root cause analysis and documentation of medication incidents
  • Identify and implement process changes secondary to incident review and analysis
  • Conduct staff meetings as required
  • Develop and oversee training of new employees
  • Interviewing potential candidates for Pharmacare Pharmacy employment
  • Monitor and maintain adequate staffing levels/ratios
  • Monitor and maintain efficient workflow in the pharmacy at all times including redirecting staff as required
  • Problem solve and/or participate in conflict/dispute resolution as required
  • Oversee and coordinate influenza outbreak protocols
  • Help with pharmacy operations/drug distribution when required 
  • Participate in pharmacy-related transition processes as required 
  • Foster and maintain relationships/partnerships with current and prospective clients and collaborate with business development when applicable
  • Review and authorize invoices and expense reports as applicable
  • Meet and evaluate offerings/services with external vendors and/or stakeholders and organize/coordinate regional educational events
  • Implement performance management including verbal and written warnings, in collaboration with Human Resources, for staff members as needed
  • Collaborate with the Pharmacy Manager to create and maintain standard operating procedures
  • Provide information and advice regarding administration, usage, drug interactions, side effects, dosage and proper medication storage to clients, partner sites and team members as needed
  • Ensure proper storage and disposal of pharmaceutical products/medications in a manner consistent with legal and professional obligations
  • Maintain customer medication profiles and records, including but not limited to pharmacy files, patient profiles, charge system files, inventories, etc.
  • Coordinate and supervise the compounding and dispensing of drugs according to medication orders issued by authorized medical care providers and is ensure the timely processing of medication orders and the distribution of medications



  •      Other duties will be assigned as required.



  • Is both familiar with and compliant with all record keeping requirements for operating a licensed pharmacy within Alberta
  • KROLL system experience
  • Experience using KROLL in a long term care setting is an asset
  • Experience with Pacmed or other automated unit dose packaging systems is an asset
  • Proficient general computer and Microsoft skills

  • This position requires the selected candidate to sit, stand and walk throughout the day
  • Strong stress management abilities



  • Graduate from an accredited school
  • Licensed Pharmacist in the Province of Alberta
  • Excellent computer knowledge
  • Knowledge of Kroll Pharmacy Systems
  • 5+ years as a Pharmacy Manager is an asset
  • Supervisory experience mandatory
  • Knowledge of all dispensary equipment
  • Continuing Care pharmacy experience preferred
