Description

The Position:  Under the supervision of the Day Center Supervisor, the Activity Aide, supports the Activity Coordinator in providing meaningful and engaging recreational services to CEI participants, assists with maintaining the supplies, documentation, and assists staff to ensure participant’s needs are met in the day center.

 

The rate range for the Activity Aid at Center For Elders Independence is $ 20.98 to $ 31.47/hr. Wages/salary are based on the market for the Activity Aid position, as well as experience, skills, abilities and work history

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

ACTIVITY SERVICES

  • Leads individual and group recreational activities such as art, music, crafts, discussions, outings, and special events/holidays, to support participant’s level of physical fitness, psycho social functioning, and resilience.
  • Works closely with the Activity and Volunteer Functional Manager and Activity Coordinator in the development of a meaningful program of activities designed for individuals and groups.
  • Supports daily operation of Activity program as designed by the Activity Coordinator.      
  • Assists with documentation and provides coverage for Activity Coordinator in IDT and additional meetings as required.
  • Conducts required participant assessments as needed with required possession of Certificate of Activity Leadership approved by the California Department of Public Health.
  • Monitors and assists with maintenance of supplies and equipment used in activities service and storage areas.
  • Maintains neat and clean environment in the activities service and storage areas.
  • Provides training and support to volunteers, guest speakers, outside entertainers and instructors as appropriate.

 

DAY CENTER SERVICES

·         Assists with all general support at the center such as greeting participants and escorting ambulatory and mobility impaired participants to and from the van.

·         Observes and reports any changes in participants’ ambulation, transferring, psycho social functioning, general behavior, and level of alertness.

·         Assists with transferring from wheelchair to seat, and back during activities.

·         Maintains a courteous, helpful and professional attitude on the job. Displays a willingness and ability to be responsive to all customer groups.

·         Complies with all agency training requirements. Maintains professional affiliations and any required certifications.

·         Provides and maintains a safe environment for participants and self. Displays awareness of safety hazards and reports and/or reverses hazards.

 

 

 

OTHER

·         Maintains the confidentiality of all company procedures, results and information about participants or families.

·         Follows all CEI Policies and Procedures.

·         Complies with all agency training requirements.

·         Maintains safe working environment by following CEI’s safety P&P’s.

·         Maintains a courteous, helpful and professional attitude on the job. Displays a willingness and ability to be responsive to all customer groups.

·         Performs other duties as assigned in a positive and helpful manner.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work in a diverse and interdisciplinary setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal skill and ability to communicate effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Possess flexibility, initiative and willingness to learn.
  • Current CPR certification and First Aid training.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Holds or willing to obtain Activity Leadership Certificate approved by the California Department of Public Health – Preferred
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish, Cantonese or Mandarin – Preferred. 

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting, finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing or walking for 80% of the working day.
  • Limited pushing, bending, kneeling and reaching at arm’s length and overhead.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying up to 10lbs. regularly.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
