Description

The Position:     Under the supervision of the Home Care Administrator, the Home Care Geriatric Aide II assists CEI participants in the participant’s home. The Home Care Geriatric Aide II demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide personal care and light housekeeping services to frail elders who need help to maintain safety and comfort in the home. The Home Care Geriatric Aide II provides services as determined by the participant’s plan of care in accordance with PACE Program standards.

Compensation range for the HomeCare GA II (CNA) at CEI is $18.73/hr - 25.76/hr.   Offers based on level of experience/education as it applies to the requirements for the position

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Home Care Geriatric Aide II will assist a small group of elders in their daily routines to ensure a safe, comfortable home. These activities include:

  • Providing medication prompts
  • Providing light meal prep, followed by clean-up
  • Properly storing and organizing delivered meals
  • Monitoring food expiration dates
  • Showering and bathing utilizing durable medical equipment and bathing aides
  • Dressing and grooming the elder in preparation for day. Escorting elders to CEI vans, if needed
  • Assisting the elder move from their bed to a chair or a wheelchair and assisting with ambulation using an assistive device
  • Light housekeeping, to include dusting and vacuuming
  • Washing and folding Laundry
  • Taking out garbage and recyclables
  • Following the care plan to complete tasks

 

The Home Care Geriatric Aide II may also assist by:

  • Maintaining a calendar/reminders
  • Encouraging enjoyable pastimes, good nutrition, exercise, and taking medications as prescribed
  • Communicating participants’ service concerns to the care team promptly
  • Reporting physical or behavioral changes to the RN supervisor immediately
  • Notifying supervisor when the elders need food, medicine, or personal products
  • Maintaining a positive relationship with participants’ families by listening to their ideas

 

In general, the Home Care Aide II is also expected to:

  • Act as a participant advocate by reporting any violations of the Participant Bill of Rights & Responsibilities
  • Respond to participant complaints in a timely manner, and understand the basic procedures for receiving and documenting complaints or requests.
  • Complete required paperwork accurately and on time
  • Demonstrate dependability by arriving consistently and on time to scheduled work hours, and submit timely and accurate timesheets
  • Maintain a courteous, helpful, and professional attitude on the job
  • Display a willingness and ability to be responsive to all customer groups- including staff, participants, and their families
  • Comply with all agency training requirements
  • Maintain professional affiliations and any required certifications
  • Provide a safe environment for participants and self by displaying awareness of safety hazards, and reporting and/or reversing hazards
  • Participate in Quality Assurance programs as required
  • Follow all OSHA safety guidelines and CEI Policies and Procedures
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all participant information according to HIPAA requirements
  • Perform other duties as required or requested in a positive and helpful manner

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A valid California Certified Nursing Assistant license is required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred
  • A valid California driver’s license, current vehicle insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle is required
  • Current CPR certificate and First Aid Card is required.
  • Ability to understand basic English instructions and to write simple statements in English is required.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records is required.
  • A good work history, with good attendance and being on-time is required.
  • Minimum 1 (one) year of experience in providing household services to frail, low income elderly persons in efficient and consistent manner is perferred
  • Interest, enthusiasm, and experience working with frail, cognitively impaired older adults
  • Knowledge of the physical, mental, and social needs of the elderly is required
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to conscientiously follow directions with limited supervision
  • Good people skills, and a helpful attitude
  • Bilingual is a plus
