About the Job

University Supervisors for the College of Undergraduates Studies School of Education are contracted each semester to oversee, mentor and evaluate teacher candidates in-person during their clinical practice experiences. This position is a part-time, in person position working predominately in the metro Denver area. University Supervisors observe and evaluate teacher candidates face-to-face in the Denver metro area; attend scheduled meetings with School of Education Clinical Practice Coordinators; and guide candidate progress in meeting state and School of Education standards. The position requires principal or coaching experience and knowledge/skill in standards-based instruction, assessment, classroom management, as well as content area expertise.

The role of University Supervisors is to instruct, guide, and coach assigned undergraduate students who are candidates for Colorado teacher licensure, through observation, feedback, facilitative conferencing, and performance evaluation. Supervisors are trained to evaluate candidate performance on School of Education assessments including standards-aligned lesson plans, observation critiques, and Action Research Project. The supervisor serves as an ambassador and communication liaison with assigned school-based personnel where teacher candidates are assigned to complete their field studies. The Supervisor reports to the School of Education Clinical Practice Coordinator.  The number of students to be observed each semester will vary based on course enrollment.

We’re looking for candidates who have:

  1. A Master's degree in education, administration or doctorate in education field.
  2. Experience in Math or Special Education at the Secondary level.
  3. Current or recent Colorado Teaching /Professional Educator License preferred.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in supervising or critiquing other’s performance.
  5. Previous leadership experience in a school setting.
  6. Excellent written and oral interpersonal communication skills.
  7. Documented history of working well as a team member.
  8. Proficiency in computer usage and able to use appropriate software and technology in the learning environment.
  9. A Passion for higher education and dedication to excellence in teacher preparation.

Key Job Duties

  1. Observe and evaluate teacher candidates' performance in clinical practice experiences according to the Colorado State standards for teacher performance and the requirements of Colorado Christian University's teacher licensure programs.
  2. Mentor teacher candidates as they develop effective teaching dispositions and the art of teaching skills by providing constructive feedback using current standards and research for best practices.
  3. Conference with the school-based teacher and candidate at an initial and a final assessment meeting.
  4. Conference with teacher candidates after each observed lesson in addition to conducting a final evaluation exit conference at the end of the semester. Prepare written summaries for all observations.
  5. Read and react to written reflections of students weekly.
  6. Communicate with students in a timely manner. This includes: Using the eCollege e-mail system to communicate with students and checking it regularly to assist and support teacher candidates.
  7. Represent Colorado Christian University, establish a positive working relationship with school districts and personnel, and maintain ongoing communication among the school, the university, and the student to support teacher candidate success and problem solving.
  8. Collaborate with the teacher candidate's assigned school based teacher to evaluate teacher candidate's performance in clinical practice assignments.
  9. Participate in supervisor meetings, faculty and supervisor training sessions, and, occasional scheduled teacher candidate activities as requested by the Clinical Practice Coordinator.
  10. Must follow all university policies and meet expectations according to established faculty and staff guidelines.
  11. Be physically available to the Clinical Practice Coordinator and students for the 16 weeks of the university semester.
  12. Must be comfortable with Technology and willing to learn how to enter information in various digital formats.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, you may be required to walk, stand, sit, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, speak with clarity, and have appropriate vision and hearing capabilities. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. You may be required to work occasional irregular hours, including some nights and weekends.

CUS affiliate faculty pay is normally paid at $1,000 per credit hour. However, the University will decide if and how the course will be delivered based on the number of students or type of program. In cases where there is not full enrollment CCU reserves the right to pay courses or on a per student basis that could be at a pro-rated basis or a flat rate based on the nature of the program and enrollment. For example, pay rates for individual music lessons, educational programs, and lab courses programs may vary.

  1. Committed follower of Jesus Christ, who believes there is no salvation apart from faith in his atonement on the cross, by grace alone becoming "born again" thus beginning a personal relationship with Christ, the Son of God.
  2. Able to effectively communicate personal faith and apply biblical principles and convictions in the workplace. Must have a strong sense of calling to the ministry of Colorado Christian University.
  3. Regularly attend and be engaged in meaningful involvement in a Bible-believing evangelical local church. Knowledgeable about the Word of God and passionate about Christian education.
  4. Must be a traditional evangelical Christian whose lifestyle is in consonance with sound Christian principles, is compatible with CCU’s Statement of Faith, and is in agreement with the Strategic Priorities promulgated by the University.
