About the Job

Colorado Christian University is currently looking for qualified instructors to become affiliate faculty in the School of Education for the College of Undergraduate Studies. The University’s adjunct/affiliate faculty is a group of experienced professionals, contracted on a course-by-course basis, as needed. CCU's affiliate faculty members will integrate their evangelical Christian faith in the classroom and help disciple the next generation of Christian leaders.

College of Undergraduate Studies (CUS) courses are offered during the day in a traditional in-seat, 15 week semester.

We're looking for candidates who have:

1. A desire to teach in a bachelorette program and hold a Master’s and three to five years of documented work experience in a field of study related to Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education.

2. Appropriate certification and/or licensure including a CLD, CLDE, or Bilingual Endorsement
3. Three to five years of higher education teaching experience preferred.
4. Willingness to be trained to use the platform, Brightspace
5. Proficiency in appropriate MS Office software is required. Be able to use appropriate software and technology in the learning environment.
6. Passion for higher education and dedication to student success.
7. Evidence of developing collegial relationships and work with ethnically, racially, and linguistically diverse individuals and teams
8. Ability to commit approximately 5-10 hours per week to this role, which includes teaching at least two mornings per week
9. At least five years of effective classroom teaching experience at the early childhood, elementary, middle, or secondary level
10. Desire to work together to improve student growth and achievement through phenomenal teacher preparation grounded in diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism.

Key Job Duties

  1. Contribute to CCU’s mission: Christ-centered higher education transforming students to impact the world with grace and truth. Affiliate Faculty contribute to the University’s mission by enhancing and advancing exemplary academics, spiritual growth, and engagement with the world.
  2. Present current research, law, and implications involved with the education of the CLD population of students in order to provide appropriate instruction to teacher candidates. 
  3. Must follow all course policies and meet expectations according to established faculty guidelines, including timely grading of assignments, tests, papers, and final grade submission.
  4. Communicate with students in a timely manner. This includes:
    1. Contacting students using the Blackboard e-mail system before class starts to welcome them, using the Brightspace-mail system to communicate with students and check it regularly to assist and support students.
    2. Participating in the course and in online discussions as appropriate.
    3. Returning assignments in a timely manner with meaningful and helpful critiques.
    4. Using the Brightspace Drop Box for all assignments and returning all graded assignments to maintain a permanent record of student work.
  5. Commitment to the integration of Christian faith and learning.
  6. Class preparation and continual course maintenance required. Course maintenance includes updating assignment due dates in the course syllabus and the online course shell. Faculty have access to their course shell (Brightspace) one month before their course is scheduled to begin and are expected to take the time necessary to familiarize themselves with the course objectives, content, text, assignments and delivery format. Grades must be turned in a maximum of 14 days after the last day of class. (Note: final payment will not be made until grades have been turned in.)
  7. Provide supplemental material that will enhance the class according to the experience and expertise of the faculty, however gain approval from the Dean before adding new material to course shell. Adhere to the course and course objectives for basic content.
  8. Maintain established office hours when contracted for a course and be available for individual student consultations.
  9. Participate in the faculty orientation program, bi-annual faculty meetings and other training & forums as required.
  10. Communicate promptly with the Dean if you face any difficulties. Report errors, deficiencies, misrepresentations and make suggestions for improvement in course content to the Dean.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, you may be required to walk; stand; sit; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; speak with clarity, have appropriate vision and hearing capabilities. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

CUS affiliate faculty pay is normally paid at $1,000 per credit hour. However, the University will decide if and how the course will be delivered based on the number of students or type of program. In cases where there is not full enrollment CCU reserves the right to pay courses or on a per student basis that could be at a pro-rated basis or a flat rate based on the nature of the program and enrollment. For example, pay rates for individual music lessons, educational programs, and lab courses programs may vary. 

Adjunct/Affiliate faculty are contracted on an as-needed basis and are not eligible for participation in most employer-sponsored benefits. Affiliate faculty may choose to make a personal contribution to a retirement plan through CCU.  

Spiritual Requirements

  1. Committed follower of Jesus Christ, who believes there is no salvation apart from faith in his atonement on the cross, by grace alone becoming "born again" thus beginning a personal relationship with Christ, the Son of God.
  2. Able to effectively communicate personal faith and apply biblical principles and convictions in the workplace. Must have a strong sense of calling to the ministry of Colorado Christian University.
  3. Regularly attend and be engaged in meaningful involvement in a Bible-believing evangelical local church. Knowledgeable about the Word of God and passionate about Christian education.
  4. Must be a traditional evangelical Christian whose lifestyle is in consonance with sound Christian principles, is compatible with CCU’s Statement of Faith, and is in agreement with the Strategic Priorities promulgated by the University.
