Postdoctoral Fellow, iPSC Models of Diabetes

The New York Stem Cell Foundation (NYSCF) is a rapidly growing and highly successful nonprofit whose mission is to accelerate cures through stem cell research. NYSCF is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to join the Diabetes team. The project will focus on differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) into pancreatic beta cell organoids for disease modeling and discovery of novel pathways for therapeutic intervention. The Postdoctoral Fellow will report directly to a senior NYSCF investigator and will work closely with an interdisciplinary team of stem cell biologists, data scientists and automation specialists.

We are seeking a highly self-motivated applicant with a strong interest in stem cell research and ambition to learn new skills. The person will have a solid background in human pluripotent stem cell culture, including directed differentiation. Specific experience with differentiation towards the pancreatic lineage is considered a plus; previous automation experience is not a requirement.

Responsibilities:

  • Optimize processes for beta cell differentiation
  • Develop high-throughput phenotypic assays for iPSC-derived tissues
  • Perform population-based diabetes disease modeling
  • Test approaches for therapeutically targeting diabetes phenotypes in iPSC-derived tissues
  • Maintain accurate and complete records and protocols
  • Communicate in written and oral form with a multidisciplinary team

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Recent PhD in Biology, or another relevant field
  • Experience with human pluripotent stem cells, including directed differentiation, is a must
  • Experience with directed differentiation towards the pancreatic lineage is a plus
  • Experience with pluripotent stem cell-based disease modeling is a plus
  • Experience with automation systems is a plus, but not a requirement
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and report findings succinctly
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Adaptability to work in a fast-paced and changing environment
