Sr. Research Associate - Chemistry

  • Carries out multi-step synthesis, isolation, purification, and characterization of small organic compounds.
  • Designs efficient routes to target molecules.
  • Conducts literature searching to design routes and problem-solve synthetic issues.
  • Interprets SAR and proposes new analogues.
  • Presents research at departmental meetings and may also present at project team or company meetings.
  • Performs scale-up of key intermediates and final compounds.
  • Is responsible for ensuring compliance with safe laboratory practices and EH&S guidelines.
  • Contributes to technical documents (e.g., patents, scientific manuscripts, etc.).
  • Is a team-player, effectively working with scientists across different disciplines to succeed together.




  • BS/BA degree in chemistry; or,
  • MS/MA degree in organic/medicinal chemistry; or,
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience



  • Typically requires a minimum of five to eight years of related experience
  • Hands-on experience with a wide variety of synthetic methods
  • Significant experience with NMR, LC/MS, purification using column chromatograph and other techniques
  • Solid track record in medicinal chemistry which includes property-based and in vivo driven compound optimization.
  • Experience searching chemical/scientific databases
  • Experience working in a cross-functional team environment
  • Experience with safe laboratory practices and EH&S guidelines.


Technical Skills:

  • Can generate new experimental protocols built on existing methods or techniques
  • Helps to trouble-shoot technical problems for colleagues
  • Understands how the results of her/his experiments will be used
  • Able to conduct regular work without daily supervision. Supervisor should be able to communicate desired   outcomes, rather than details of execution
  • Supervisor will use the data generated  to make tactical  recommendations to project teams
  • May participate in interdisciplinary project teams or sub-teams within MyoKardia; may also provide support to extramural collaborations
  • Expected to present results and recommendations in project team and company meetings
