Investigations and enterprise reporter

The Sun News and is looking for its next senior reporter who can dive into the Grand Strand community, build sources and tell stories that connect with our audiences in innovative ways. This is a great beach town and an even better news town.

We are looking for an enthusiastic journalist with a proven track record of covering a daily beat while developing reader-focused enterprise and investigative stories.

The right candidate would pitch in on important stories of the day while working towards mid-range and long-term projects. He or she has a clear understanding of how to dig for a story, strong knowledge of the FOIA process and loves data-driven reporting.

The Sun News serves one of the fastest growing areas in the country. Our readers are passionate about their elected officials, alligators, crime, sea turtles and food, not necessarily in that order.

Myrtle Beach is, obviously, right on the beach, with 60 miles of beautiful coast along the Grand Strand. The area offers plenty of opportunities to get outside and explore with world-class golfing, fishing and lounging in the sun.

The right candidate will possess:

  • At least three years of experience
  • Familiarity and ability to build an audience on his/her social media channels
  • Skills of a true multimedia reporter who can file stories, tweets, photos and videos from the field
  • Ability to work on tight deadlines and possess a true bulldog mentality when it comes to exclusive stories
  • Strong desire to understand and get to know the Grand Strand community
