Yen Press is seeking an Assistant or Associate Production Editor to help manage its rapidly growing list of manga, graphic novels, and light novels. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, capable of working with minimal oversight, and has an eagle eye for catching errors. The assistant or associate production editor will be a creative problem solver up to the challenge of managing a brisk workload flexibly.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages all reprint corrections
  • Performs e-book quality review
  • Liaises with and traffics materials to Editorial, Design, and Digital and Production
  • Supports department with printing and mailing of materials
  • Applies for Cataloging-in-Publication data from the Library of Congress
  • Completes electronic manuscript preparation, including style coding
  • Collates editorial and proofreader marks on page proofs
  • Hires freelance copy editors and proofreaders and reviews their work
  • Checks that corrections have been made correctly
  • Copyedits and proofreads cover and insert materials from original copy through final proof
  • Reviews copyediting, working in Microsoft Word to reconcile copyediting and editorial markup, and reviews all stages of manuscripts, text proofs, and electronic blues

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Experience in trade publishing preferred, production editorial experience a plus
  • Effective organizational skills and proven ability to work well under pressure with tight deadlines
  • Proven copyediting and proofreading skills and a familiarity with electronic work flow
  • Working knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style
  • Strong computer/MS Word skills, proficiency with Track Changes
  • Knowledge of XML styling a plus
  • Knowledge of or interest in manga and/or graphic novels a plus
  • This is a full-time on-site position. Applicants must be able to travel to the NYC office daily.
