Summary

This position is primarily responsible for furthering the mission, vision and values of the organization by directing the functions of the Marketing, Communications and Meetings and Conferences departments.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide oversight and strategic direction for marketing and public relations strategies, directions and programs for the Sorority.
  • Provide oversight and strategic direction for Sorority website, social media and email marketing.
  • Direct brand strategy by overseeing logo and material development to ensure consistency within brand guidelines.
  • Ensure consistent messaging and branding of marketing and communications campaigns and materials for general membership, volunteer leaders and public audiences outside Gamma Phi Beta.
  • Support and direct communications efforts for the office of International President (IP), including composition of correspondence, scripts, social media presence and provide strategic direction of the execution of IP communication priorities.
  • Direct preparation of responses to public relations issues and serve as spokesperson with media/press in collaboration with the IP and executive director.
  • Provide oversight and strategic direction for Sorority meetings and conferences including location and accommodation selection, contracts, budget, logistics, planning and implementation of Sorority events.
  • Participate in and provide reports and presentations for International Council meetings and conference calls at the invitation of the International President to represent the Marketing and Communications division as well as the executive team.
  • Serve as representative for all communications and information to public.
  • In collaboration with the International President and other key leaders, manage the implementation of established Sorority-wide crisis and crisis communications plans. Serve as spokesperson and contact for media.
  • Serve as principal liaison to Foundation and Facilities Management Company (FMC) with regard to Sorority review of Foundation and FMC print and electronic publications.
  • Direct Sorority letters, scripts, marketing copy and other written products as needed.
  • Provide strategic direction, oversight and stewardship of Sorority’s philanthropic partnerships.
  • Manage Sorority’s brand revenue generating activities, including official retail store, licensed vendors and generation of new revenue opportunities.
  • Act as managing editor of The Crescent magazine and all other Sorority projects and publications.
  • Oversee Sorority’s Life Loyal and alumnae dues campaigns.

Additional Job Functions

  • Oversee the management of Marketing and Communications division professional staff and volunteer leaders.
  • Train and coach division staff and volunteer leaders.
  • Perform annual reviews for division directors and direct reports.
  • Provide oversight for the hiring process for new division staff.
  • Serve as a member of International Headquarters’ leadership and executive teams.
  • Provide periodic reports and recommendations to International Council as requested. 
  • Manage division budgets.
  • Serve as event resource for members, staff and volunteers.
  • Oversee the execution of evaluation processes and procedures for all events and conduct post-event debriefing sessions with staff and volunteer leaders.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises directors and staff in the Marketing and Communications division. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees and volunteer leaders; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising and recognizing performance; performance management; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in related degree program; seven to ten years related experience managing marketing, communications, public relations, events and sales; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of: Internet software; spreadsheet software (Excel); design software (Adobe Creative Suite); word processing software (Word); electronic mail software (Outlook); Database software (iMIS);  Presentation software (PowerPoint); project management software; event management software; website content management systems and email marketing software.

Other Skills, Abilities and Qualifications

  • Understanding of nonprofit organizations and/or working with volunteers.
  • Understanding of HTML, content management and email marketing software.
  • Strong analytical thinking and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills including presentation skills.
  • Professional, outgoing, customer-service oriented manner.
  • Supervisory experience working with diverse staff and volunteer functions.
  • Experience working with the media and providing statements on and off camera.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule to include travel as well as weekends and holidays.
  • Detail-oriented with big picture vision, and effective work practices under pressure while meeting all applicable deadlines.
  • Proactive, self-directed, and able to independently solve problems.
  • Greek-organization membership preferred.
