Consumer and Small Business (CSB) is one of two divisions of the Code42 Software business. It contains all home and family users plus small and medium businesses and was the original foundation of the Code42 cloud-based data backup business. It is a direct-to-consumer sales and marketing business model with a dedicated general manager, product management, marketing, customer support and engineering function.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
CSB will be transforming our commercial and operational policies and practices to derive a more scalable, more automated, even more profitable business segment, with a simpler, more customer centric overall business model. This requires new vision and strategies for the CrashPlan business and involves many changes in how we have done business in the past. This position is an important strategic role with a large impact on shaping and implementing many of these changes to drive future success for CSB and its customers.

You wield words with precision and can distill technical content for audiences ranging in skill and experience from the technology phobic to the 1337 power user. While you prize efficiency, you are compelled to do things right, even if the right thing is hard or time consuming. You are passionate about the user experience, using your eye for design and experience with information architecture best practices to consistently create truly exceptional content that answers the user's questions.
YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
- Delivering technical documentation and other self-service help that is accurate, comprehensive, clear, searchable, and that customers trust.
- Actively participating in cross-functional Agile scrum teams as the Information Experience representative, advocating for our users to help create an exceptional information experience for all self-service help materials both inside and outside of the user interface.
- Continuously improving help content in response to feedback from customers and colleagues.
- Updating help content to keep current with frequent software changes.
- Assisting in tuning documentation tools for maximum efficiency, both for authors and end users.
- Collecting feedback and analyzing data to optimize the effectiveness of help content
- Helping develop and tune metrics and key performance indicators for help content within the CSB business segment.
- Assisting with strategy for changes and improvements to Code42’s support site (User Experience, Information Architecture, etc.), aligned with greater Code42 self-service strategy and guidelines
- Other projects or tasks, as needs arise
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Qualified candidates have at least 5 years of experience writing for customer-facing applications.
- BS/BA Degree or equivalent, preferably in Technical Writing, Technical Communications or related field.
- Able to identify and understand audience needs and write to effectively address those needs.
- Experience developing or assisting with information architecture and content strategy for technical publications
- Strategic thinker with excellent analytical, problem-solving, and pattern recognition skills
- Excellent English grammar skills with proficiency in proofreading/editing, writing, and verbal communication.
- Strong aptitude and passion for learning new technologies and understanding how to use those technologies in a dynamic customer environment.
- Working knowledge of Windows, Mac, and Linux/UNIX-based operating systems.
- Strong understanding of Agile and Scrum principles and methodologies.
- Experience working with software documentation style guides and creating or contributing to team style guides.
- Familiarity with SEO best practices.
- Self-starter with proven record of driving projects to completion with minimal supervision.
