Associate Prop Artist

Certain Affinity, the largest independent video game developer in Austin, Texas, has opened a location in Toronto, Canada and we’re looking for exceptionally talented people to join us. Our Toronto studio will collaborate with our Austin location, and together we’ll be co-developing AAA FPS games and creating our own compelling new IP.

We are seeking a talented Associate Prop Artist to join our team and help make engaging great games. You will be working on assets including hard surface props, vehicles, buildings, foliage, and terrain, rocks, or other organic forms for an unannounced AAA title.  If you are seeking an opportunity to use your creativity and skills while continuing to learn and grow, then this is it!


  • Work with Senior Artists to build complex set and prop models with organized and efficient UVs, textures, and polygonal topology including hard surface props, vehicles, buildings and modular structures, foliage and plant life, and terrain, rocks, or other organic forms
  • Complete complex organization and packaging of assets for efficient downstream consumption
  • Work well in a collaborative environment
  • Implement direction and feedback from Coworkers, Leads, Supervisors, and Directors


  • A portfolio demonstrating a thorough understanding of one or more core modeling packages (Maya, 3dsMax, Modo, Blender, etc.)
  • Experience in at least one 3d sculpting package (ZBrush or Mudbox)
  • Experience in industry-standard texture authoring packages (Substance Painter, Photoshop)
  • A varied body of high-quality subject matter, such as hard surface/ mechanical, real-world, organic (rocks, terrain, foliage, biological), although there may be a higher-level specialization in one or more of these areas
  • A refined eye for appealing design
  • Strong creative and technical problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to be detail-oriented and to work efficiently within a production environment
  • Must be punctual, diligent, articulate, and organized
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative environment, taking direction from the Supervisors and feedback from the Art Director and Director(s)
  • A desire to work in a diverse and inclusive environment
  • Desire and willingness to seek feedback from coworkers

Extra Credit

  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity with an up to date knowledge of the latest content creation tools and techniques
  • Layout and world-building experience
  • Experience with Unreal editor
  • Procedural vegetation creation in software like Speedtree, Plant Factory 
  • Procedural modeling (Houdini) experience
