We have an immediate opening for a Talent Director to join our North America Human Resources team headquartered in Washington, D.C. The director will develop the overall talent strategy for our North America business operations with initial focus on talent acquisition and retention. The director will serve as a partner to managing directors, leaders and supervisors in meeting their talent needs, from talent acquisition, through on-boarding, performance management, employee relations, development, compensation and benefits. The incumbent will lead and/or participate in several new initiatives or projects, such as revamping key processes and building HR tools and resources, diversity and inclusion strategy, employment brand development, employee mobility and duty of care. We welcome a colleague who is passionate about talent management and organizational development and will serve as a thought leader and resource to support talent initiatives throughout the global APCO network. This senior leader will supervise a team of HR professionals and report to the Chief Talent Officer.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Work with Managing Directors and APCO’s leadership to identify key talent management priorities and develop NA talent strategy
  • Engage with the North America workforce and leadership to form strong relationships and serve as trusted and reliable consultant able to form independent opinions and identify and execute solutions
  • Oversee the talent acquisition and guide the hiring strategy for the NA offices (currently Washington, D.C., New York, Chicago, Raleigh, Seattle) to source and hire top talent
  • Ensure best and latest practices in employee hiring and on-boarding, internal transfers, and off-boarding  
  • Lead the performance management program and support managers and staff performance
  • Manage compensation program, engage with outside providers to access current market data and ensure the competitiveness of APCO’s compensation and benefits practices
  • Identify areas of improvement and competitive advantage in administering benefits program
  • Work with the HR team to ensure compliance including the filling and accuracy of required reporting; stay abreast of any changes in employment laws and regulations
  • Create an environment where individuals can come together on regular basis to contribute ideas and share views, and where diversity of concepts and ideas are encouraged and valued
  • Develop and build relationships across practice groups/departments to ensure success of colleagues and projects
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to the HR team, leaders and managers
  • Serve as resource to the global HR team by supporting or leading global HR initiatives or providing back up when another team member is on leave
  • Available to travel periodically to the other US offices and internationally
  • Lead special projects
  • Assist with developing budgets for department
  • Advise on ways to streamline HR procedures for greater efficiency
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • MA degree in related field required, MBA or equivalent work experience
  • 12+ years HR Generalist experience
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively in a results-oriented environment with a strong customer service and consultative orientation
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, negotiation, writing, speaking, and strong listening skills
  • Demonstrated mentoring and coaching skills
  • Understanding of US laws and, rules and regulations
  • Understanding of global mobility, and foreign workplace environments with varying laws and regulations strongly preferred
  • Experience working for a global organization a plus
  • A consummate professional who is knowledgeable of and open to emerging HR practices and approaches to staff engagement
  • Professional certification SPHR or SCP required
  • Foreign language skills helpful
