Director of Special Events
Seeking person to be responsible for developing and managing the overall marketing, sales and operation of special events at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park (DBAP) and the Durham Athletic Park (DAP).
This individual will proactively solicit new business by making sales calls/presentations, attending trade shows, and engaging in other client prospecting, with the expectation of achieving monthly and yearly revenue targets as set forth by the Assistant General Manager. Create and market new business opportunities to existing client base; research, analyze and develop special event profit generating opportunities. Create leads and develop long term relationships in the event planning, production and promotion communities.
Provide superior customer service to clients before, during and after event; work across departmental lines, especially with Bull City Hospitality to ensure all event and client needs are addressed. Solicit feedback from clients following each special event to determine client satisfaction, organizational performance and event related risks and liabilities. Prepare and provide required reports to the Assistant General Manager including special event revenue reports, profit and loss statements and departmental projections.
The successful candidate should be resourceful, very detailed, innovative and forward thinking; have the ability to effectively manage, evaluate risks and liabilities of special events and stadium rentals. Knowledge of financial analysis and planning, budgeting and marketing is required.
Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as the ability to work in a fast paced environment and manage multiple tasks. Outstanding computer skills including MS Office products are necessary; must be able to work holidays, evenings, and weekends as needed. 3 to 5 years of related experience with a working knowledge of local and regional markets, venue operations and special event industries is required.
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience and/or training, a valid driver’s license with clean driving record, and a pre-employment drug screening are required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to work in areas and conditions that are often noisy, have many distractions, and in extreme weather. Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
