What are we looking for?
Risk & Investment Management (RIM) conducts independent project appraisals to supports investment decision-making globally across the Energy Group. RIM works with senior management, business development teams and specialized departments to drive sound strategic risk management practices across the Energy Group, setting up projects for success.

Within the Risk Management Department and reporting to the Director, the position will be responsible for leading the project risks assessment upon the storage technology using strong collaborative approach upon project risk management methodologies and tools, with the aim to identify, assess and provide sound analysis and recommendations to support the Investment Committee’s decision-making across the EMEA region.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in asset and financial management and possess effective communication skills to clearly articulate background research resulting in recommendations to the key stakeholders.

 

Where are you going to work?

Madrid or Milan office with hybrid work policy in place but other EU locations (UK) may be considered.

 

What are you going to do?

Under the supervision of the RIM Director, you will support the entire investment cycle process in all stages of development, financing, construction, operation and exiting focusing on the storage technology.

 

  • Conduct in-depth and timely investment risk investment appraisal & solution-driven recommendations of new Project opportunities for Investment Committee’s review. It includes a detailed assessment of the overall project investment feasibility, evaluating the risk & return profile and recommending practical risk mitigating solutions
  • Define, implement and continuously improve a framework made by best-in-class methodologies, processes and tools to establish effective Project Risks Management practices upon storage during the whole project life cycle (e.g. checklist and risk register, root cause analysis and lesson learnt database)
  • Perform investment risk appraisal analysis, to work closely with the Business Development and Storage team. It includes a detailed review of the Due Diligence reports, project assumptions used in the financial models and other relevant project documents, aiming to create and update the project risk register
  • The risk and investment feasibility analysis would include the assessment of the country, regulatory risks, permitting risks, financing, engineering & construction, and storage risks, PPA and off-taker risks, ESG, operational risks, ancillary services and exit-sale risks
  • Lead initiatives aimed to strengthen risk culture among the different Teams, providing training courses with focus on guidelines and experiences (e.g. lessons learnt and root cause analysis)
  • Perform country risk analysis for new target countries focusing on storage regulations and opportunities, and to monitor country risk status of existing countries.

 

 What you have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required
  • A Minimum of 3-5 years of work experience in project risk management within the renewables landscape
  • Previous experience in Business Development, financing and operations can also be considered
  • Good understanding of key energy storage technical parameters, applications and various income streams that make up the use case
  • Solid work ethic with a strong sense of ownership and responsibility
  • Strong financial modelling and analytical skills
  • Strong verbal, research and report written skills with excellent coordination and cooperation skills; a team player who is willing and able to work with others to solve problems and share knowledge
  • The ability to effectively manage multiple project deadlines simultaneously
  • Fluent in English

 

Nice to have: 

  • A MSc or an MBA defree
  • A RMP (Risk Management Professional) Certification or a Project Management Master’s is highly appreciated
  • Other European languages besides English
