Position Description:   Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Trainee/Clinician provides clinical and rehabilitation services to adults with psychiatric disabilities living in or in transition to the community in San Mateo County. In collaboration with a multidisciplinary team the Trainee/Clinician assists in the design and implementation of treatment goals, performing psychosocial assessments, individual, group, and family therapy; is an advocate for clients; provides crisis prevention and intervention when necessary; and helps plan a program including the utilization of community resources to enhance the individual’s quality of life.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:       

                                                                  

  • Essential duties include the following, with progressively more independence in decision-making and action based on experience and level.
  • Complete comprehensive clinical psychosocial assessments as assigned.
  • Conduct individual, group, and family therapy as needed to assigned clients utilizing evidence-based practices.
  • Provide case management, mental health services, and crisis intervention for adults living with severe mental illness.
  • Facilitate psychoeducational groups utilizing evidence-based practices.
  • Provide support to Case Managers in the field when directed by Program Directors for crisis interventions and 5150 assessments.
  • In team meetings, contribute to the development of individual treatment and behavior plans.
  • Provide support to Program Directors with training and reviewing of Case Managers treatment plans as assigned.
  • Train staff in using the Caminar Safety plan and crisis tools. Review the plans and tools submitted by staff to confirm they meet the requirements of the agency.
  • Ensure that Medi-Cal documentation meets the requirements of all applicable standards and regulations and are properly maintained, stored, and kept confidential. Attend and perform regular chart audits.
  • Develop, facilitate, co-facilitate clinical trainings for case management teams.
  • With the multidisciplinary team participate in the development and attainment of client rehabilitation goals.
  • Provide coverage for team meetings when assigned when the Program Director or Assistant Program Director is not available.
  • Attend multidisciplinary team meetings as assigned.
  • Develop and maintain a respectful, caring, tolerant, ethical, and empowering relationship with all individuals served.
  • Assist in conflict resolution between and among roommates, natural supports, and housemates.
  • Maintain a client caseload as assigned.
  • Maintain at least a 65% service time to total work time percentage productivity level.
  • Document in a timely manner treatment planning, progress notes, assessments, and interventions according to agency, county, and Medi-Cal billing and quality assurance requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with client treatment team, psychiatry, external providers, including but not limited to family members, conservators, discharge planners, and social workers when clients are hospitalized.
  • Provide monthly accounting of client outcomes and service utilization through agency reporting tools.
  • In collaboration with multidisciplinary team evaluate client for diagnosis updates annually.
  • Perform all job functions in cooperation with the supervisor, other staff on the case management team, and other service providers involved in the treatment effort, including sharing information regarding all important interventions.
  • Supervisor of the Day will respond to medical emergencies, voluntary hold and involuntary holds, client crises, and other critical incidents. Supervisor of the Day will coordinate appropriate details, will call appropriate law enforcement/medical first responders in relation to the incident, and be the liaison with the first responders, and ensure a critical incident report is completed within 24 hours.
  • Participate in staff meetings and attend other meetings, as assigned.
  • Attend and participate in regularly scheduled weekly clinical supervision sessions.
  • Attend and complete trainings as assigned and in a timely manner.
  • Drive own or agency vehicle to treatment destinations, as required; documenting and reporting mileage according to agency procedures, so that services can be provided in a timely manner; comply with agency vehicle policy at all times.
  • Participate in promoting a safe, healthy, and clean working environment at all times consistent with applicable laws, industry standards and the agency’s own Health & Safety Program.
  • Complete and submit accurate time sheets and absence reports to program management in a timely manner.
  • Promote within the agency and with the general public the philosophy and practice of social rehabilitation.

  • Maintain registration or license with BBS required to provide the functions of this position.
  • Perform other related duties, responsibilities and special projects as assigned.

 

Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be passionate about Caminar mission.
  • Clinician must be registered/licensed with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) (AMFT/LMFT, ASW/LCSW, APCC/LPCC etc.); licensed supervision hours available.
  • MA/MS in mental health/social work-related field. 
  • Clinician Trainee-Master of Arts or Master of Science degree in progress from an accredited graduate program with major in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Behavior Analysis, or other related degree required.
  • Have an understanding of the DSM 5 preferred.
  • Clinician must be eligible for and pass test for 5150 certification with SMC with in first month of hire.
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment including email and Internet navigation required. Experience with Human Service Information Systems strongly preferred. Experience with web-based time and attendance and staff training and development system strongly preferred.

Physical, Environmental and Mental Requirements:

  • Physical: Occasionally required to push/pull objects up to 50 lbs., and to lift/carry objects up to 25 lbs. Frequently required to perform moderately difficult manipulative tasks such as typing, writing, etc. Must be able to walk, stand, sit for extended periods.
  • Sensory: Frequently required to read documents, written reports, and plans. Must be able to distinguish normal sounds with some background noise, as in answering the phone, interacting with residents and staff, etc. Must be able to speak clearly and understand/be understood using the English language.
  • Cognitive: Frequently required to concentrate on moderate detail with constant interruption. Must be able to attend to a task/function for 20-45 minutes at a time. Frequently required to understand and relate to specific ideas, several at a time. Must be able to remember multiple tasks/assignments given to self and others over a period of several days.
  • Environmental Conditions: Frequent exposure to varied office and mixed (residential/office) environments. Occasional exposure to toxins and poisonous substances, dust, and loud noises.
  • Equipment: Frequently required to use a computer, phone, and fax machine.

 

Special Requirements:

  • Must be able to meet and receive a criminal records clearance, as required by Title XXII, other licensing regulations, and Caminar practices.
  • This position requires frequent driving. A valid California driver license, reliable personal vehicle, current personal auto insurance as required by law, and an MVR sufficient to obtain and reasonably maintain insurability under agency auto liability policies are all essential job requirements. 
  • Must be able to pass post offer, pre-employment medical and drug tests as required under State Community Care Licensing regulations and/or agency policies.
  • A personal cell phone with reliable service and, if applicable, a data plan to use for business purposes.
  • May be required to obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certification.
