Procurement Manager:

Reports to

Director, Supply Chain



Purchases goods or services for their employer to use or sell. Ensures employer obtains quality products for competitive prices in a timely fashion. Plays an integral role in ensuring a company sticks to budgets and operates profitably.

  1. Liaises with key company employees to determine their product and service needs
  2. Monitors business trends and product availability to pay the best price for company goods and services without sacrificing quality or delivery times
  3. Nurtures relationships with suppliers to negotiate the best prices for company
  4. Identifies and researches potential new suppliers
  5. Researches new products and services to meet company's goals
  6. Assesses total costs of company purchases
  7. Develops and implements strategies for procuring, storing, and distributing goods or services and maintaining stock levels
  8. Oversees a team of purchasing agents
  9. Serve as the organization’s representative for the Supply Chain department on procurement issues and procedures.
  10. Develop and coordinate new policies and procedures regarding procurement processes.
  11. Conducts analysis of program policies and procedures, develops plans, formulates guidelines, implements new developments and procedures, and provides policy interpretation for finance to purchasing customers within corporate guidelines.
  12. Prepare program guidelines, status reports and presentations for Supply Chain, Finance and executive staff.
  13. Monitor approvals based on governance rules necessary to maintain an appropriate degree of fiscal control over vendor relationships.
  14. Coordinate daily duties of procurement support staff.
  15. Assist in developing training material, preparing lesson plans, and overseeing procurement training.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages all employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending or standing on a stool as necessary.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.


Position requires occasional travel outside the local area and overnight.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in any combination of the following fields: supply chain, accounting, business finance, law, contracts, purchasing, industrial management, quantitative methods, or organization and management.

  1. Three years of professional procurement/purchasing experience in a mid-sized organization.

Preferred Education and Experience

Prior management or supervisory experience.
