Job overview:

This position is responsible for leading and planning the billing operations for a 9 person department. The individual will design, implement and enforce policies and procedures, as well as streamline effective billing processes across multiple revenue streams. The manager will apply resources (human, IT, and so on) to the right processes at the right times to ensure that billing is completed in a timely, accurate manner. This position is highly visible and requires a strong leader with the ability to prioritize, plan, and direct the department.

Key functions:

  • Oversee and streamline billing processes
  • Increase accuracy of billings and reduce rework and credit memos required
  • Review and enforce application of contract terms during call review to ensure customers are being billed fully for services
  • Establish and monitor metrics around:
    1. Call review speed / accuracy
    2. Credit memo processing speed / backlog
    3. Other invoicing speed / accuracy
    4. General team performance including cross-training and moving work from person to person as needed
    5. SMS ticket closing speed / accuracy
  • Close the billing process at month-end
  • Plan and implement quality assurance for all processes
  • Roll out call review automation to eliminate excess time in manual processing
  • Develop team members’ individual skills and talents
  • Ensure new hire and term decisions are in keeping with objective achievement and team dynamic
  • Hold regular team meetings and build team morale and excitement
  • Serve a point for problem escalation and customer service for both internal and external customers

Required skills:

  • Ability to perform strategic planning and priority setting for a billing department
  • Track record for improving process efficiencies and solving problems
  • Strong leadership skills with an ability to motivate direct reports
  • Detail oriented with an Accounting background
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • College degree in accounting/finance/business management preferred
