LOCATION: Remote (Fall) & Onsite at various tournament locations as part of event staff

 

POSITION TYPE: Full-Time

 

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

 

REPORTS TO: Championships Tournament Director

 

WORK HOURS: Monday – Friday 8:00 am5:00 pm when in the office, Variable shifts onsite at the tournament. Ability to work weekends and/or extended hours as needed.

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

Assistant Championships Tournament Manager (Director) in planning, supervising, and managing operations of the USBC Championships to take the tournament to the next level of professional execution for a best-in-class event. Prioritize the work of others, promote consensus on policies & procedures, and serve as a resource providing direction, training, and support to front-line personnel.

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Fill MOD shifts as required. Serve as an escalated point of contact for bowlers and staff to answer questions. Address issues as required to keep operations/departments running smoothly, ensuring all service standards are met.
  • Implement and assist in training, development, and motivation of staff with a concentration in department consensus and promoting teamwork. Train, educate, and motivate staff and clientele to facilitate a comprehensive understanding of the components of the tournaments team, and how they work together to provide exemplary customer service and put on these world-class events.
  • Contribute to the strategic process of TMS and Registration platforms as a point of escalation for event staff.
  • Continually manage in-place practices and systems, work with the Tournament Manager to improve policies and processes, and evaluate operational methods.
  • Monitor and approve staffing schedules according to bowling projections, budgets, and needs of the departments. Suggest opportunities for “right-sizing” and maximizing utilization of personnel.
  • Work to ensure communication and cooperation between the tournament staff, host facility personnel, and vendors to provide the best quality product for our guests.
  • Coordinate onsite fulfillment of marketing and loyalty initiatives including, but not limited to, Captains Court and destination incentives, etc.
  • Recognize and reward worthy achievements by competitors and staff.
  • Be a visible leader demonstrating the ultimate in customer service and employee relations decorum.
  • Manage Tournament mailboxes and provide guidance and timely responses to all client inquiries and concerns.
  • Assist short-duration tournament director outside of the Championships venue as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • This position is responsible for supervising the day-to-day activities of the event and the event staff with an emphasis on staff development, event flow, policy application, and customer satisfaction.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Superior leadership talent-functioning calmly, confidently, and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced team building abilities – mentoring and motivating a team in a service-focused setting.    
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong customer service proficiencies-service minded and engaged.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to speak and present in front of large groups.
  • Solid problem-solving & multi-tasking aptitude-balancing time and resources.

 

EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in sports management or related field is preferred.
  • Bowling knowledge required (overall ability to intelligently discuss any aspect of the game).
  • The ability to relocate annually (up to 6 months at a time) is required.
  • Experience working across several teams and independently.
  • Experience in a customer service environment is required.
  • Must pass the RVP program and maintain a “Green Light” status.
  • Must adhere to the Code of Conduct of the USBC Registered Volunteer Program is a condition of employment and continued employment.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Occasionally required to move about inside the office and offsite locations.
  • Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, or crawl.
  • Light work that includes occasionally lifting/moving objects up to 30 pounds.

  • Compensation paid commensurate on experience.

TRAVEL: This position will require travel up to approximately 25% of the time. In addition, this position will require the employee to be onsite for the Women’s Championships, for the Open Championships (one or the other – TBD) tournament site or for any short duration needs when the tournaments are running, so relocation is required for up to 6 months at a time.
