JOB TITLE: Tournament Lead Mechanic – Open Championships

 

LOCATION: Baton Rouge, LA

 

POSITION TYPE: Full-Time – Seasonal

 

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

 

REPORTS TO: Tournament Director – Open Championships

 

WORK HOURS: MondaySunday (hours vary depending on tournament schedule), ability to work extended hours, as needed.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Lead Mechanic will be responsible for the physical assets of the Open Championships and to ensure their protection, long life, and operation at the highest level of efficiency. These assets include pinsetters, lanes, ball returns, scoring equipment, and all other related mechanical maintenance of the Open Championships. The Lead Mechanic is also responsible for the training and supervision of the mechanics team and the team’s compliance with all Open Championships policies and procedures. The Lead Mechanic is highly trained and ongoing education will be offered as new products are developed.

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Maintain schedules for preventative maintenance for all equipment.
  • Maintain and repair mechanical and electrical equipment to keep operating at the highest level in the industry.
  • Schedule an A Mechanic and a B Mechanic for every tournament shift (2 shifts per day – 7 days per week). Provide updated schedule to management weekly including all contact information.
  • Responsible to cover for all mechanic no-shows. Two mechanics must be on duty during all tournament play.
  • Maintain a daily stop-sheet of all Pinsetter stops. Make special note of all stops that took more than 5 minutes to correct and fully describe.
  • Keep all Pinsetters and the Pinsetter area spotless. Assign daily PM, cleaning, dusting/mopping duties to each mechanic on both shifts for each day of the week. Check behind everyone’s assigned work.
  • Maintain all critical Pinsetter mechanical adjustments precisely and inspect/monitor continuously.
  • During play, check every pin on every machine EVERY DAY for EXACT pin-spotting +/- 1/16” in all directions. Record and then adjust ASAP (next oil break if possible).
  • Record all Pinsetter Frame Counts weekly and calculate tournament-to-date totals.
  • Maintain a running parts-used list - record all replacement parts used at the time they are used, and then make a weekly Brunswick parts order to replace all parts used in the past week. Contact management immediately for any emergency parts orders needed.
  • Provide a Weekly Pinsetter Performance Report to management. Include: a written summary of how the Pinsetters performed in the past week, daily stop sheets and 5+ minute stops explanation for the week, weekly frame counts for each Pinsetter, the frames-per-stop calculation for the week and tournament-to-date, your weekly Brunswick parts order, and a maintenance supply order for approval if necessary (cleaning/maintenance/office supplies you can pick up locally), and the coming week’s mechanic work schedule.
  • Must follow Lock-Out/Tag-Out functions on all equipment.
  • Must maintain a safe working environment and will not allow unauthorized persons in or around any equipment.  
  • Must have MSDS log for all products used.  
  • Will work with USBC staff and must maintain a strict code of privacy to uphold the integrity of the Open Championships.
  • Abides by the Machine Area Safety Procedures and Standards of Operation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • This position is responsible for all other mechanics.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

 

         High School Diploma or continual learning education.

         Ability to work nights and weekends, and special events.

        Must be neat and well-groomed always with no loose jewelry or apparel and will have frequent contact with guests, clients, and supporting staff.

 

EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • 5+ years’ experience in the bowling industry.
  • Must have vast experience in the electrical systems that are involved in pinsetters and automatic scorers.
  • Must be able to work on GSX machines, Kegel and Brunswick Lane machines, Brunswick Vector scoring system, as well as an understanding of AMF pinsetters and Brunswick A-2 pinsetters.
  • Must be adaptable and flexible.

 

TRAVEL: This position will require the employee to be onsite for the Open Championships, so relocation is required for up to six months at a time. A fixed start and end date will be communicated at the time the offer is made.
