JOB TITLE: Tournament “A” Mechanic – Open Championships

 

LOCATION: Baton Rouge, LA

 

POSITION TYPE: Full-Time – Seasonal

 

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

 

REPORTS TO: Tournament Lead Mechanic – Open Championships

 

WORK HOURS: MondaySunday (hours vary depending on tournament schedule), ability to work extended hours, as needed.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The “A” Mechanic will be responsible for the physical assets of the Open Championships and to ensure their protection, long life, and operation at the highest level of efficiency. These assets include pinsetters, lanes, ball returns, scoring equipment, and all other related mechanical maintenance of the Open Championships. “A” Mechanics are highly trained and ongoing education will be offered as new products are developed.

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Maintain schedules for preventative maintenance for all equipment.
  • Maintain and repair mechanical and electrical equipment to keep operating at the highest level in the industry.
  • Answer calls from USBC Supervisors up front and respond to/clear pinsetters issues as quickly as possible. SAFETY is always your priority over speed.
  • Continuously watch for blackout lights on all Pinsetters and clear the issue – often before the problem has been reported to USBC personnel by the bowlers.
  • Record all Stops on the computer stop-sheet program. Leave a note for the Head Mechanic on any Stop that took more than 5 minutes to clear.
  • Leave a note for the Head Mechanic anytime part replacements are required on your shift.
  • Perform the daily PM and housekeeping duties assigned to the A Mechanic for the shift you are working. Make sure the B Mechanic duties are performed properly.
  • Check every pin on every Pinsetter every shift for perfect spotting +/- 1/16” in any direction. Leave a list for the Head Mechanic. Correct any bad off-spots at the next oil break if possible. ALWAYS inform the lane crew should you need to correct spotting or any other issue during an oil break, so they can adjust their oiling sequence accordingly. Always let them know when you are finished.
  • The Head Mechanic has many time-tested “critical adjustments” that are NEVER to deviate from – especially in the ball exit and accelerator area. Know these adjustments and check on relevant stops. If in doubt – don’t improvise - check with the Head Mechanic.
  • COMMUNICATE! Leave a note for the Head Mechanic on the Head Mechanic Notes clipboard for any unusual stops or situations during your shift.
  • Must follow Lock-Out/Tag-Out functions on all equipment.
  • Must maintain a safe working environment and will not allow unauthorized persons in or around any equipment. 
  • Abide by the Machine Area Safety Procedures and Standards of Operation and all safety procedures outlined in the Brunswick Service Manual.
  • Will work with USBC staff and must maintain a strict code of privacy to uphold the integrity of the Open Championships.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Responsible for “B mechanic(s) and/or Pin Chasers assigned to their shifts.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

 

         High School Diploma or continual learning education.

         Ability to work nights and weekends, and special events.

        Must be neat and well-groomed always with no loose jewelry or apparel and will have frequent contact with guests, clients, and supporting staff.

 

EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • 5+ years’ experience in the bowling industry.
  • Must have vast experience in the electrical systems that are involved in pinsetters and automatic scorers.
  • Must be able to work on GSX machines, Kegel and Brunswick Lane machines, Brunswick Vector scoring system, as well as an understanding of AMF pinsetters and Brunswick A-2 pinsetters.
  • Must be adaptable and flexible.

 

TRAVEL: This position will require the employee to be on-site for the Open Championships, so relocation is required for up to six months at a time.
