BioMarin’s Technical Operations group is responsible for creating our drugs for use in clinical trials and for scaling production of those drugs for the commercial market. These engineers, technicians, scientists and support staff build and maintain BioMarin’s cutting-edge manufacturing processes and sites, provide quality assurance and quality control to ensure we meet regulatory standards, and procure the needed goods and services to support manufacturing and coordinating the worldwide movement of our drugs to patients.

 Electrical & instrumentation Engineer - Shanbally, Ringaskiddy, Cork (Hybrid role) 

The Role  
As an Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer at BioMarin, you will be responsible for ensuring that the equipment and processes of the organization operate at optimal levels and meet the needs of the organization. The Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer will be a key member of the Engineering and Reliability team within the wider Engineering Department. Your main goal will be to identify opportunities and risks within the electrical infrastructure across site, increase equipment uptime, reliability, and efficiency. You will achieve this by analysing data, identifying problems, and developing solutions for potential equipment issues before they occur. As a member of the Engineering & Reliability team, you will also be responsible for implementing ALM programs and strategies for E&I systems.  
Responsibilities  
  • System Owner and key interface onsite for electrical and instrument equipment and activities.
  • Responsible for Medium and Low voltage systems
  • Oversight on systems such as Fire Alarm, Emergency Lighting, UPS systems.
  • Engagement with key stakeholders and business partners
  • Partnership with automation and IM teams for Comms & data systems
  • Oversight of various communication protocols such as Profibus, Profinet, Modbus, TCP/IP.
  • Operate and maintain electrical systems such as electrical distribution networks, emergency standby, utilities and HVAC
  • Responsible for ensuring that all electrical systems remain operational, available for use and GxP compliant at all times.
  • Setup and review of service contracts with BioMarin Legal Representatives
  • Setup and review of relevant Quality Risk Assessments for vendors
  • Ensure that maintenance & calibration is carried out in accordance to cGMP regulations, safety considerations and site quality standards.
  • Ongoing review of instrumentation used across critical systems
  • Responsible for Configuration Management Program in Shanbally
  • Ensure calibration and maintenance records are GxP compliant and audit ready at all times.
  • Generate, report and analyse key electrical maintenance metrics
  • Use of permit to work system or other safety systems to control engineering activities.
  • Participation in HAZOP and design reviews
  • CAPA/CR/Deviation interaction
  • Conception and showcasing of short to long term strategic projects
  • Ensure that all engineering drawings and documentation are maintained in compliance with relevant cGMPs and GEPs.
  • Ensure all electrical and instrumentation installations are completed in line with regulatory and site standards.
  • Responds to Maintenance On-Call support as required.
  • Investigate and root cause instrumentation and electrical equipment issues.
  • Improve reliability of electrical and instrumentation systems across the plant.
  • Review of electrical and associated systems for energy efficient design and solutions
  • Implementing of system PM’s and subsequent review of records on CMMS system.
  • Analysing equipment failure data
  • Conducting root cause analysis
  • Developing and implementing new procedures and processes
  • Identifying and solving problems related to the reliability of systems and equipment
  • Increasing the overall uptime and availability of systems and equipment
  • Reducing the number of failures and downtime
  • Strong engagement with project team for design and implementation of new upgrades
  • Control of Coordination studies and arc flash analysis for electrical networks
  • Electrical planner/coordinator for electrical based works for engineering shutdowns
  • FAT/SAT attendances for ongoing projects
  • Up to date with latest technologies that will benefit business and systems
  • Development and upkeep of relevant engineering specifications
Experience & Skills  
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the bio-pharmaceutical industry with strong electrical/instrumentation & maintenance experience
  • Strong demonstrated ability in the area of communication and ability to interact with cross-functional teams.
  • Proven ability to work independently and make key decisions quickly if required
  • Familiar with relevant national/international engineering standards and directives.
  • Experience with CAPA, FMEA and RCA tools is a highly regulated operations environment.
  • Creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to make decisions and take necessary actions.
  • Strong organizational skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Education  
  • A relevant third level qualification in Engineering or related discipline
