Description

This is an engineering technician position with an emphasis on electromechanical prototype build support, troubleshooting, parts inventory and management, and general lab support.  The individual will work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers developing instrumentation that incorporates aspects of mechanical, electrical, and firmware engineering.
 
Position Accountabilities:  
  • Manage inventory and documentation of prototype parts for new product development efforts
  • Assemble components, electromechanical sub-assemblies, PCBs, cables, and wire harnesses following engineering drawings, schematics, sketches, work orders, and/or verbal instruction 
  • Develop test methods and perform testing to verify correct assembly / functionality of prototypes
  • Modify and repair components, sub-assemblies or PCBs
  • Support mechanical, PCB, and/or firmware troubleshooting and issue resolution including operational test and fault isolation on instruments and subassemblies 
  • As needed, support coordination of the engineering department’s calibrated tools
  • Other miscellaneous administrative tasks, such as lab organization, parts procurement, and shipping
Business Accountabilities:  
  • Assists in the definition, proof of concept, design, development, implementation and/or support of technical or business solutions by performing specific research activities or developments within the scope of the assigned activity  
  • Assumes responsibility for the identification of errors and related problem solving in order to identify the necessary activities to provide a solution  
  • Ensures quality of deliverable by following good design practices and department procedures for design control and/or good scientific practices to ensure scientific relevance.  
  • Creates appropriate documentation such as scientific communication, reports, meeting reports and other relevant reports within the function  
  • Defines priorities within the scope of the assigned activities to ensure timelines and quality of project(s) he (she’s) involved in.  
 
Typical Experience, Skills, and Qualifications:
  • Associates Degree in Engineering or minimum of 5 years relevant work experience. 
  • Medical device experience strongly recommended.
  • Well-grounded in fundamental engineering design principles and test methods with demonstrated hands-on design competency working with complex medical instrumentation and test equipment 
  • Skilled at reading wire prints, schematics, engineering drawings, and assembly procedures 
  • Surface mount soldering experience strongly recommended
  • Proficient in use of MS Excel and Word
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Self-motivated with ability to manage multiple ongoing tasks
