Barracuda is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, available in Ann Arbor, MI, to dive into the tricky and yet interesting world of building and securing appliance systems. You must enjoy Linux distributions, playing with hardware, and be willing to spend a bit of “quality time” with OS installers, build scripts, CI/CD mechanics, and AWS infrastructure.
What you’ll be working on:
- Developing and maintaining Barracuda’s Operating System platform, based in Linux
- Including kernel, packages, encryption, startup services, installers, etc. while troubleshooting issues and scripting tasks.
- Involvement in bringing up new hardware.
- Maintaining and creating CI/CD pipelines conforming to industry best industry practices.
- Developing and migrating infrastructure in AWS to improve scalability and redundancy.
- Troubleshooting technical escalations.These include OS or hardware platform bugs as well as software application bugs.
- Collaborating with other software development teams to embrace new technologies, improve architecture, and develop necessary toolsets.
What you bring to the role:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years with configuration management: Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or anything similar.
- 5+ years working with a common scripting language: Python preferred, or experience in another scripting language with willingness to learn Python.
- Familiarity with basic networking and commodity PC hardware.
- Experience in implementation of new, robust, and scalable RESTful APIs and microservices
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge or hands-on experience with Linux based distributions: building, compiling, and packaging software.
- Understanding of networking concepts.
- Fluency in scripting in Shell. Scripting in Python or other high-level languages.
- Ability to read Makefiles.
- Enthusiastic about hardware technologies.
- Exposure to AWS, Git, Jenkins, Docker, and/or Terraform, preferred but not required.
