The Avalara CMS team is looking for a proven leader who is passionate about driving a world-class Compliance experience and has a demonstrable record of success in high growth, high-quality environment. As a leader in the Global Returns organization, this position will be responsible for executing managerial and strategic responsibilities by identifying customer and operational needs; analyzing resources, costs, and forecasts and incorporating them into business plans; gaining cross-functional support for business plans and priorities; translating business strategy into actionable business requirements; obtaining and distributing resources; setting standards and measuring progress; removing obstacles that impact performance; guiding performance and developing contingency plans accordingly; and ensuring products and/or services meet customer requirements and expectations while aligning with organizational strategies. 

Job Summary

As the leader of this team, you will be directly responsible for managing our Compliance Managed Services team that is a BPO or outsourcing group.  You will lead a local unit of talented compliance specialists who are skilled at all period end processes including generating tax obligations such as SPED.  You will work closely with product development, product management, and software engineering to identify opportunities to improve our Tax Solution, including automation and new features that can enhance our compliance process and also our software to all customer base.

Job Duties

  • Lead and manage a Compliance team in a global company
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships with all other operational teams
  • Leverage analytics to inform the broader business of areas of focus and performance
  • Build a necessary skill set to rapidly integrate new lines of business
  • Apply metrics-driven approach to defining success and set goals according to plan
  • Define evolution path for the team at scale and with ever-increasing customers to support
  • Develop and implement a roadmap for continuing work obsolescence via automation
  • Explore and execute opportunities for increasing customer value based on differentiation


Qualifications (absolute must-haves walking in the door)

  • 5 or more years in technical senior leadership for Compliance Outsourcing Services (BPO) role
  • Fluent English in conversation, read and write is mandatory
  • 10 more years in a Compliance Services leadership role
  • Advanced knowledge of process/workflow creation, curation, and refinement at scale
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multiple teams in remote locations
  • Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional technical teams
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex resourcing models in a dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated ability in compliance services, related to all Brazil legislation, including direct and indirect taxes, all kind of digital files (SPED, GIA, Reinf, etc.)


Preferred Qualifications (great to have but not necessary)

  • Senior Leadership in SAAS based company
  • MBA or postgraduate in Tax Compliance
  • Experience in a leadership position at the Tax department in big companies
