What will you do? The Director of Vocational Product Management will work with the management team to execute company strategy and direction, own the product market direction and go to market strategies and directly manage the product management, project management, user experience, program management and industry solutions functions.  You will oversee vertical specific strategy including from identified target markets through successful market penetration, which is executed against the corporate market strategy and direction.  You will create demand and pull at the lowest level for these products in the markets we serve.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement strategies to successfully position AUTOCAR products as the only relevant tool in the markets we compete in
  • Lead in the development and implementation of company’s strategic direction with a focus on the company’s offerings; Help to define product and service market strategies and roadmaps based on market trends, market opportunity, customer needs, competitive analysis and input from sales, marketing and analysts.
  • Establish strong working relationship with customers (current and prospective) to define product needs and wants. Obtain feedback from customers through running product planning and product review programs, drive selection and prioritization of customer-driven initiatives with internal decision makers, and communicate requirements to product development.
  • Design and drive all aspects of the product marketing process and go-to-market strategy
  • Lead roadmap discussions and product information sessions through outbound communications to both customers and internal staff.
  • Work with Brand Communications to create product marketing collateral and product sales tools, such as product positioning, product presentations, competitive sales tools and white papers.

Product Planning & Development:

  • Lead the overall planning and competitive marketing strategy for assigned products and solutions to meet revenue market share and profit goals.
  • Work with sales leadership to develop and manage product market opportunities and growth initiatives per discipline/product area
  • Coordinate with leadership to lead and manage the development of new proposals and business cases created by assigned teams.
  • Ensure the market and business requirements across assigned products are aligned to customer needs and revenue and profit goals.
  • Lead and manage ongoing market intelligence activities and develop deep customer insights and "job-to-be-done" to support new opportunity identification and business case development of new opportunities.

Offering Life Cycle Management:

  • Drive financial performance of product group and individual vocational, including recommendations on investment priorities
  • Analyze and evaluate market performance and product positioning, benchmark against competition and market
  • Collaborate with leadership to determine timeline of product launch and sunset
  • Review and provide input on analysis investment for product maintenance

Market Intelligence:

  • Oversee and contribute to market research activities across discipline areas
  • Design product and marketing strategies and positioning using market intelligence
  • Work with discipline-specific product teams to monitor, report, and respond to competitive intelligence
  • Analyze and interpret market data and trends, provide recommendations to product teams base on that analysis

Business Analysis:

  • Analyze product(s) profit and loss statements; collaborate with leadership to monitor profitability across products
  • Use quantitative data and qualitative analysis
  • Make sure we are focused on building our strategy on all the differences to competition including monitoring their products, pricing, and comparison to our products and offerings.

Required Skills

  • Proven background planning and executing through the product lifecycle, to include gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining the product vision, and working closely with marketing, product development, sales and support to ensure revenue and customer satisfaction.
  • Excellent people and management skills to interact with staff, colleagues and cross-functional teams, and third parties.
  • Must possess a deep understanding of the product process, to include mining, organizing and surfacing customer feedback.
  • Ability to convert analytical insights into concepts and recommendations.
  • Well-developed project management skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven history of successfully balancing and strategizing top line goals with bottom line performance.
  • High level of initiative and desire to create a world-class user experience for our customers.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related discipline.
  • 10+ years’ experience successfully leading a product management function with strong preference for experience in an industry in which the paramount objective of its product is reliability.
  • Proven background in problem analysis, resolution, and development of new product requirements.
  • Creativity and knowledge in all areas of product management including the ability to conceptualize, develop and implement innovative product development programs. Must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy; a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality.
  • Must enjoy spending time in the market to understand related problems, and find innovative solutions for the broader market.
  • Must have designed and executed a multi-year product roadmap that ties features to company product and revenue goals
  • Experience in building customer centricity and voice of the customer programs.
  • Ability to manage large, complex, international projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated experience in adopting product management best practices, standards, and policies.
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and work collaboratively.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills with the ability to synthesize information quickly and concisely, allowing you to bridge the gap between the highly-technical parts of your role and the business and financial impact
  • Ability to solve problems creatively, proactively, and identify roadblocks and create resolutions and work collaboratively.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of time to customer and non-customer sites.
