Ashoka seeks a dynamic and experienced Director or Global Talent & HR to lead our Global Talent Team. This team supports the organization worldwide by creating systems and processes that help individuals, teams, and the organization to thrive. Reporting to the Leadership Team, the Director of Global Talent & HR will lead a team of around 8 permanent staff and 3 consultants, with direct management responsibilities for several team members. You will work closely with the other Talent leaders working on Talent Operations, Talent Architecture & Technology and Learning & Development. You will also collaborate closely with other senior leaders such as the Leadership Team (which the CEO is a part of), the Chief Financial Officer, the General Counsel, and the leaders for each of our geographic regions.

Responsibilities may include 

Team Management 

  • Lead the Global Talent team at Ashoka (incl. direct management responsibilities) 

  • Design team’s strategy together with the other Talent leaders, and continue to evolve strategy to respond to external trends and organizational needs 

  • Manage team’s budget and expenses 

  • Together with the Global Controller, supervise US payroll, benefits and visa team 

Resourceful Humans, Culture & Values 

  • Design and lead initiatives that promote a culture rooted in Ashoka’s values in which individuals and teams can thrive (including our existing initiative, Ashokans Let’s Talk) 

  • Serve as the primary HR liaison for staff worldwide for any Global Human Resources and Employee Relations situations. 

  • Working closely with other teams and key partners (e.g. Ombuds, Leadership Team, Diamond Leaders, Integrity team, etc.), support teams worldwide to address any issues that impact individuals and teams. Topics include conflict management, giving and receiving feedback, equipping Accountability Partners (Ashoka’s alternative to traditional management structures) to better support colleagues, etc. 

  • Lead resolution of escalated HR situations, with the necessary support from other teams such as Integrity, Finance, Leadership Team, Ombuds and our pro-bono lawyers. 

  • Manage Ashoka’s Ombuds Program and work closely with our two Ombuds people to identify patterns, provide individual and systemic solutions, etc. 

Performance Management 

  • Design and lead Performance Review process for worldwide staff 

  • Oversee the overall integration of the different components of this process (performance conversations with senior leaders, support to teams and individuals, operations, etc.) 

These responsibilities may shift to reflect ever-evolving organizational and team priorities, as well as to capture the unique skillsets and experiences whomever fills this role possesses.  Changes to the role will be discussed with your Accountability Partner.

Requirements
Successful candidates will possess most of the following skills and experiences: 

  • Evidence of the ability to guide individuals and teams through difficult situations with a high level of confidentiality 

  • Excellent organizational management skills and a keen eye for detail 

  • Cross-cultural experience working with team members from a variety of backgrounds and cultures 

  • Displays high levels of empathy and can consider a diversity of stakeholders when making decisions and in tailoring communication 

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and innovate effectively in a fast-paced, and complex environment  

  • Strong written and spoken communication skills 

  • Experience in the HR field, including knowledge of US and/or international employment law, compensation, organization development, employee relations, safety, employee engagement, and employee development is preferred but not required
