Description

Ascent Resources is seeking an experienced Completions Engineer Advisor to serve as a senior technical leader within the Operations Engineering organization. This position is located at our corporate headquarters in Oklahoma City, OK and reports to the Completions Manager.
 
The Completions Engineer Advisor will provide technical leadership in the design, evaluation, and execution of completion and drill out programs across the asset portfolio. This role is responsible for developing and optimizing completion strategies through data-driven engineering, operational analytics, and continuous improvement initiatives.
 
The position plays a key role in multi-disciplinary development teams, working closely with Reservoir Engineering, Geology, Production, and Operations to integrate subsurface understanding with completion design and operational execution. The successful candidate will leverage advanced analytics, diagnostics, and operational data to drive performance improvements, cost optimization, and technology advancement across the development program.
 
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance in the design and execution of well completions and drill out operations across development programs
  • Lead completion and drill out design, recommendations, and procedures for multi-well pad developments
  • Collaborate closely with Reservoir Engineering and Geology teams to integrate subsurface insights into completion design and development strategies
  • Serve as a key technical contributor within multi-disciplinary asset teams to optimize well performance and field development outcomes
  • Provide support to field operations during completions, drill out, and intervention operations
  • Develop cost estimates for AFEs and budgeting
  • Track and analyze completion and drill out costs versus AFE and budget forecasts
  • Develop and maintain cost tracking dashboards and operational performance metrics
  • Analyze and present technical analysis on execution, operational efficiency, and cost performance to management
  • Utilize data analytics tools to evaluate completion performance, identify trends, and optimize operational practices
  • Build and maintain operational and cost analytics dashboards using Spotfire, Power BI, or similar data visualization platforms
  • Integrate operational, financial, and production data to support data-driven completion design and performance optimization
  • Apply frac diagnostics and performance analysis (treatment pressure analysis, stage efficiency metrics, production response, and other diagnostic tools) to evaluate completion effectiveness and guide future designs
  • Evaluate and optimize stimulation fluid systems and chemical programs, including friction reducers, scale inhibitors, surfactants, and other frac additives to improve frac efficiency and well productivity
  • Work with service providers and internal teams to analyze treatment chemistry performance and recommend optimization strategies
  • Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives focused on completion design, operational efficiency, and cost reduction
  • Participate in vendor evaluation and service provider selection, including technical assessment of stimulation services, completion technologies, and operational performance
  • Identify opportunities for cost optimization through design improvements, operational efficiencies, and vendor benchmarking
  • Assist the Completions team with the evaluation and implementation of new technologies, including design and assessment of field trials
  • Work with various teams within the organization to optimize development schedules and minimize SIMOP impacts, with a focus on accurate forecasting of frac and TIL dates
  • Lead complex projects while meeting operational timelines and budget objectives
 
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Strong technical leadership capabilities with the ability to guide engineering design and operational strategy
  • Demonstrated data-driven engineering mindset, leveraging operational data, analytics, and diagnostics to optimize completion performance
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multi-disciplinary teams, including Reservoir Engineering, Geology, Production, and Field Operations
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Extensive experience in multi-well pad development and unconventional completions
  • Advanced knowledge of downhole tools, stimulation techniques, and completion procedures, including limited entry design and lateral lengths up to 25,000’.
  • Experience evaluating frac diagnostics, treatment data, and production response to optimize completion design
  • Experience with cost tracking, variance analysis, and operational performance benchmarking
  • Familiarity with stimulation chemistry optimization, including friction reducers, scale inhibitors, surfactants, and other frac fluid additives
  • Understanding of the impact of fluid chemistry on frac efficiency, well productivity, and formation compatibility
  • Proficiency with data visualization and analytics tools such as Spotfire, Power BI, or similar platforms
  • Ability to develop dashboards and analytical tools that support operational and financial decision-making
  • Project management and large-scale program coordination skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Wellview, RigView, and data analysis packages
 
Education & Work Experience Required
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering
  • 5-10 years of oil and gas experience, with a heavy influence in completions
Preferred
  • Multi-basin experience
  • Experience leveraging data analytics platforms (Spotfire, Power BI, or equivalent) for operational analysis and reporting
