What will you be doing?
This position is responsible for real-time coverage of Asia non-ferrous metals market, including but not limited to making pricing assessments, writing market analysis and breaking news, and/or covering events such as press conferences and industry gatherings.
The Associate Editor, through advanced subject-matter expertise and experience, leads major team projects, helps set strategic direction for team coverage, acts as a mentor to less-experienced colleagues, and helps the editor with end-of-day tasks. The associate editor also collaborates with colleagues on other teams and in other regions and functions.
- Collect market prices and make assessments, adhering to rigorous compliance standards
- Oversee methodology relevant to coverage, which includes timely communication of needed changes, additions or deletions
- Write market commentaries, news, analysis and market outlooks; develop graphs and charts within Excel to illustrate trends and analysis; communicate this information in a timely manner to management and subscribers
- Work with and interview subject matter experts; research industry trends
- Contribute to presentations as directed by management
- Develop and maintain rapport with key contacts, and liaise regularly with industry stakeholders (buyers, sellers, traders, brokers)
- Develop new contacts within the market to aid with gathering prices and general market intelligence
- Maintain existing databases and build new databases for designated products
- Cover conferences and events (some travel required)
- Adhere to strict deadlines
- Provide subject-matter expertise to other Argus departments
- Help with report production or other non-management tasks
- Act as mentor
- Work on special projects as needed
Key Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in the commodities industry, journalism or a related sector
- Ability to use data to generate stories and analysis using Excel is preferred
- Background in metals markets preferred but not essential
- Understanding of price reporting methodology and compliance issues would be a strong advantage
- A strong understanding of market supply and demand dynamics in commodities
- Public speaking abilities
- Excellent communication skills with ability to network and build contacts with industry executives.

This is a full-time position. Days of work are generally Monday through Friday, and hours vary by region and market. Time flexibility, including weekend working, may be expected on occasion.
