What will you be doing?

 

As part of our expansion in Japan, we are looking for outstanding individuals to join our growing team to cover reporting on Asia’s fast-growing commodities and energy space.  This is an excellent opportunity for analytical and inquisitive analysts, consultants and brokers to transfer their skills and knowledge to a price reporting, news, and analysis business

 

The successful candidate will join our global network of over 600 dedicated market analysts to connect deeply with the markets they cover, delivering expert news, analysis, and information not available elsewhere.  We pride ourselves on analysing how and why news matter to our high-level audience, which comprises Fortune 500 companies, national oil and energy companies, multinationals, financial institutions, trading companies, and governments.

 

You will work within a fast-paced team and help expand our global coverage of the commodities market.  You will be writing engaging news stories and analysing spot prices that are timely, accurate, objective, and meaningful for our clients.  This includes maintaining a strong network of contacts within the industries to source original, relevant and exclusive content. You will be able to quickly become a subject matter expert and lead coverage within a designated product portfolio.  You will enjoy collaborative work with colleagues from various backgrounds, many located in Argus’ other offices around the globe. In addition, there are opportunities to attend industry events, present at industry conferences and lead webinar sessions.

 

  • Monitor and assess fast-moving markets to produce daily price assessments, intelligence, market commentaries, news, analysis, and reports.
  • Establish strong relationships with key members of the industry and business leaders through meetings and daily communications to gain an in-depth understanding of your market.
  • Proactively generate news leads and pitch stories, contribute copy to the relevant publication and the online news service, and contribute to unique content (blog posts, white papers, webinars, podcasts, etc.).
  • Collaborate with colleagues on the desk and other teams to enhance and drive coverage.
  • Attend meetings, conferences, and industry events to build contacts, report on news and represent Argus in the industry.
  • Build your industry expertise and writing skills to provide readers with first-class market insights and analysis.

What we’re looking for in you

 

  • An articulate graduate with a strong degree.
  • The ability to develop, verify and write industry-relevant news/content to deadline is preferred.
  • Prior experience working in financial or commodities journalism is beneficial but optional.
  • Interest in and enthusiasm for commodities, energy markets, global business, politics, and economics.
  • Experience delivering breaking news, insightful market reports, and in-depth analytical articles is a bonus.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Office Suite with experience in Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to network and build contacts with industry executives.

Travel

  • Cover conferences and events (5-20% of domestic/regional travel is expected).

 

Hours

Monday through Friday, 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.  

Earlier or later hours, or weekend hours, may be expected on occasion.
