Position Summary:

The Director, Pricing & Reimbursement Strategy (P&RS) will manage Apellis’ portfolio for APL-2, an innovative C3 complement inhibitor for the treatment of Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hyperglobinuria (PNH) and Geographic Atrophy (GA) and is responsible for leading the Global development of pricing and reimbursement strategy for these areas in addition to multiple follow-on indications within the portfolio. This position reports directly into the VP of Value, Access, and Policy. The incumbent will guide strategic planning to support value and access optimization around the world for the first key launch for the company.  In addition, this role will support further indications in development as well as weighing in on future lifecycle planning with respect to new studies, presentations, and device development.  This role is responsible for global strategic pricing, including recommendations for global price bands and launch sequence key key markets around the world. The role will also require effective affiliate working relationships to help drive pricing and reimbursement negotiations at the local level.  In the long term, develop pricing & reimbursement capabilities and further develop a high performing team with effective cross-functional working relationships.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Represent the payer perspective within cross-functional, cross regional commercialization teams thereby optimizing the lifecycle of APL-2 in PNH and GA
  • Must closely collaborate with HEOR, Clinical development, Business Intelligence, Marketing, and the Affiliate counterparts to ensure value and access optimization
  • Develop Global access and pricing strategies for early and late-stage pipeline molecules including generation of global value proposition and messages, detailed forecast assumptions, global price bands and launch sequence; support strategies with in-depth market research, environmental data & analogs
  • Provide payer pricing & access assumptions for business development and emerging opportunities
  • Interact with internal/external experts in pricing, health economics, patient advocacy, health technology assessment authorities, government policy makers and payers as required to execute P&R project objectives
  • Advance and guide therapeutic area activities regarding global price policy development, governance, innovative pricing mechanisms and pricing capabilities and systems implementation through leveraging data infrastructure and analytics
  • Establish capability and value of discipline with focused growth in function to support forward-looking strategy
  • Drive high standards for individual and team accomplishment

Education, Registration & Certification:

  • BA in field of study requiring quantitative analysis; advanced degree preferred including MS, MBA, PhD

Experience:

  • 8+ years of direct biotechnology / pharmaceutical industry experience and/or payer experience
  • Self-starter with a track record of taking a high-level strategy and operationalizing it thoroughly
  • Creative, entrepreneurial, with the experience of bringing forward innovation within the payer space

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Strong practical, quantitative and analytical skills combined with a sound understanding of how to successfully apply pricing principles to support Apellis
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and make sound pricing and market access recommendations
  • Exhibits outstanding written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively write and deliver presentations to professionals at all levels within Apellis

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
