Position Summary:

The Senior Manager of People Services is an integral member of our Human Resources team and is responsible for leading and executing on continuous improvements for people service initiatives. This position will have a people-focused, modern take on human resources. When designing and implementing programs and policies, the incumbent uses new and best practices to enhance The Apellis Way in people operations. The Senior Manager focuses on employee support while providing objective strategic HR partnership and support to the business.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage and execute the daily HR operations for all offices and field-based employees.
  • Build, assess, enhance employee experience, from on-boarding to off-boarding, that clearly reflects the firm’s values, and in turn enables the foundation of employee value proposition.
  • Triage and handle all frontline (or tier-one) employee questions and queries
  • Develop efficient and effective HR processes and policies to meet the company’s needs
  • Actively participate in collaboration among leadership across the HR specialty areas, to ensure prioritization of critical, strategic issues and the seamless sharing of information.
  • Assist with the definition of project scope and objectives linked to the people services vision, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility.
  • Responsible for the management of employee records in HRIS to ensure all transactions are expressed appropriately in the HR systems of record for both US and international employees; answer questions and advise HR business partners on how to express employee changes in the appropriate systems, and properly action Employee Self Service workflow transactions.
  • Ensure data integrity, HRIS functionality and efficiencies in HR practices that are in line with company and HR lead strategic initiatives.
  • Audit files for accuracy and timeliness; complete all reporting accurately.
  • Liaise with the Human Resources and Operations teams to serve as an initial point of consultation, problem resolution, and facilitation in the areas of process improvement.
  • Monitor, verify, and authorize routine personnel actions and requests.
  • Develops and delivers general training presentations regarding orientations and other HR programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree in business, HR or a related field or the equivalent combination of experience is required. HR certification a plus, but not mandatory.
  • 7+ years of progressively responsible HR experience.
  • Strong generalist background (4-5 years), including benefits knowledge.
  • Experience with ADP is a plus.
  • Prior experience in the Biotech industry is preferred.

  • Proven track record within multiple HR disciplines: employee relations, training and development, performance management, benefits and recruiting.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills and the ability to work with different levels of management 
  • Highly motivated with the ability to be flexible in a fast-paced environment 

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Some travel may be required (anticipated to be less than 10%).
