Position Summary:

The Associate Director of Innovation Project Management supports the Apellis Innovation Center by ensuring delivery of research and digital health projects executed with external partners according to project specifications incl. budget, timelines, and scope. This role will build strategic end-to-end vendor and project management capabilities and responsibilities including vendor on & off-boarding, contract management, new vendor selection, spend tracking and analysis, relationship management including issue escalation & risk management. The role will ensure internal project plans are fully aligned and supported by all external activities.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop, manage and maintain up-to-date project timelines inclusive of all critical milestones, deliverables, action items, budget and key interdependencies, applying experienced project management techniques
  • Ensure the timely execution of the plan and making the tradeoffs for scope / timeline / budget
  • Proactively identify and escalate risks/issues to project stakeholders and propose risk-mitigation solutions
  • Collaborate effectively and professionally in a cross-matrixed environment
  • Develop agendas, take meeting minutes, track metrics and manage communication for the teams and senior leaders
  • Share lessons-learned among Parties and colleagues, integrate lessons into existing processes, tools and templates
  • Escalate issues when appropriate to assist in resolving issues and moving the projects onward
  • Collaborate with Finance, Procurement, Legal and Privacy offices to ensure compliance to Apellis policies

Key Performance Indicators

  • Availability & maintenance of project plans for all Innovation Center projects
  • Oversight of project action items, timelines & receipt of project deliverables
  • Track projects to contracted budgets
  • Successfully close out escalated issues with vendors

Education, Registration & Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree, in healthcare or business administration with prior project management experience

Experience:

  • 7+ years’ experience setting up and working within Project Management Best Practices & Guidelines
  • 3-5 years’ experience working in clinical research, healthcare or life science setting. IT, Data Management, or Digital Health experience is preferred (experience working directly in data and digital groups is nice to have)
  • Track record in successful delivery of large, multi-year programs/projects which may include third party collaborations and internal cross-functional groups
  • Demonstrated ability to build & maintain professional relationships
  • Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR, Smart) and healthcare security rules (HIPAA)
  • Familiarity with Data Privacy and Integrity laws and best practices is preferred
  • PMP certification preferred
  • Microsoft Project/Smartsheet skills needed or willingness to learn
