Associate Director, US HCP Marketing Lead – PNH and Hematology

Position Summary:

Apellis is seeking a passionate and talented marketer for the role of Associate Director, US HCP Marketing Lead – PNH and Hematology. It is an outstanding opportunity to make a significant impact for HCPs and the company, leading US HCP marketing for the first commercial launch for Apellis.

The US HCP Marketing Lead will be the hub of HCP strategy, insights, and centricity for the US organization, enabling a focus on delivering against the desired HCP experience while achieving corporate goals. They will be responsible for building and executing HCP marketing plans for market shaping and product launch. They will be deeply engaged with cross-functional partners, fostering collaboration and accountability. They will report to the Director, US Brand Lead.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Translate global product strategies into objectives and strategies for US HCPs. Advocate for US HCP needs to be integrated into global product strategies
  • Create a vision and plan for HCP marketing in the US for both market shaping and the launch of APL-2 in PNH and Hematology. Lead agencies in the execution of that plan
  • Effectively socialize HCP strategy, plan, and core marketing activities within the US  organization
  • Build and nurture strong, positive relationships with key cross-functional partners, including medical affairs, patient services, and field teams. Use those partnerships to uncover insights that can help guide marketing execution. Leverage those relationships to ensure partner execution in line with strategy / plan
  • Think holistically about the business and closely monitor performance against key metrics, taking accountability for driving success of HCP-facing initiatives over the long-term in a highly competitive market
  • Help breed a culture of patient-focus and customer-centricity throughout the organization
  • Efficiently and thoughtfully administer the HCP marketing budget
  • Work closely with regulatory, legal, and compliance to build policies and procedures related to HCP marketing, including speaker bureaus and advisory boards

Education, Registration & Certification:

  • BS/BA degree, MBA preferred


  • 6+ years of biotech/pharma experience, predominantly in marketing roles of increasing scope and responsibility
  • US Launch experience and rare diseases experience is preferred
  • Experience in sales or customer-facing roles is a plus

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Passion for understanding and championing the needs of people treating rare diseases, translating them into market-moving insights
  • Experience translating global brand strategy into affiliate HCP marketing execution, with depth in both personal and multi-channel marketing
  • Ability to navigate and be successful in a fast-paced, results-driven environment, managing through ambiguity
  • Commitment to collaboration and engagement, with a history of success leading in a matrix environment and with agency partners
  • An entrepreneurial spirit coupled with the drive to embrace innovation and develop creative but well-reasoned solutions to business challenges
  • Motivation to be a part of envisioning and building the infrastructure, systems, and tactics to ensure launch success
  • Demonstrated integrity on the job, including an understanding of relevant rules and regulations
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence across functions and varying levels of the organization 
  • Willing to travel domestically up to 30% of the time and attend events outside of business hours (e.g., occasional weekends and evenings)

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
