Position Summary:

The Director Medical Information is a key member of the medical affairs team who will work closely with medical affairs, drug safety, scientific communications, legal, and regulatory to build and develop the medical information infrastructure. The successful candidate will work with key stakeholders to establish medical information policies and procedures for global medical affairs including oversight of the call center, establish medical information database, and provide responses to unsolicited requests for medical information.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Design and implement the Medical Information services at Apellis
  • Oversee the Medical Information call center
  • Establish appropriate policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners including PV and Safety to ensure reporting in alignment with appropriate SOPs and guidance

Education, Registration & Certification:

  • Must have a PhD, Pharm D or MD level degree or equivalent

 Experience:

  • 5 years + experience in medical affairs organization
  • Experience in rare disease, hematology, nephrology, or ophthalmology required
  • Significant experience working within medical information in the biotech, pharmaceutical, or other related area

 Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Strong leadership skills, including demonstrated ability to lead a cross-functional team, and influence at all levels of an organization.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation and facilitation.
  • Ability to work independently and with flexibility to handle work flow in a fast-paced environment.
  • Some travel will be required, up to 25%.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
