Position Summary:

Apellis is seeking an experienced and talented marketing leader for the role of Director, US Brand Lead – PNH. It is an outstanding opportunity to make a significant impact for patients and the company, leading the US marketing organization through the first commercial launch for Apellis.

The US Brand Lead will be responsible for building a strong team and guiding that team through market shaping and launch efforts. They will be the strategic hub of the US organization, translating global strategy into local execution. They will be deeply engaged with cross-functional partners, driving collaboration and accountability across the organization to deliver business results. They will report to the VP, Head of North America Sales & Marketing.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Build and manage a high-performing US marketing team whose approach aligns with Apellis’ mission, values, and culture. Support team members in their development
  • Create a vision and plan for the launch of APL-2 in PNH in the US market. Cultivate collaboration and accountability across key cross-functional teams to deliver on all elements of that plan in a way that aligns with brand strategy and the corporate values / culture
  • Breed a culture of patient-focus and customer-centricity throughout the organization
  • Think holistically about the business and closely monitor performance against key metrics, taking accountability for driving success over the long-term in a highly competitive market
  • Effectively socialize brand strategy, the launch plan, and core marketing activities across all levels of the organization
  • Ensure that policies, procedures, and infrastructure for compliance, legal, and regulatory are in place to support US marketing execution
  • Build a strong and positive relationship with global marketing, advising them in the development of long-term brand strategy
  • Drive efficient and thoughtful stewardship of marketing team budget

Education, Registration & Certification:

  • BS/BA degree in life sciences, MBA preferred

Experience:

  • 8+ years of biotech/pharma experience, predominantly in marketing roles of increasing scope and responsibility but also with experience in complementary commercial roles (e.g., patient & HCP marketing, sales, market access, commercial operations, global marketing, etc.)
  • Experience in affiliate launches and rare diseases is preferred

  • Deep understanding of how to translate global strategy into affiliate marketing execution with market-moving results
  • Reputation of being a well-respected, dynamic team leader who can inspire people behind a vision
  • Track record of building plans and rallying the cross-functional organization around those plans, demonstrating accountability and sense of urgency
  • A strong commitment to understanding and meeting customer needs, as well as to maintaining close relationships with front-line employees
  • An entrepreneurial spirit coupled with the drive to embrace innovation and develop creative but well-reasoned solutions to business challenges
  • Motivation to be a part of envisioning and building the infrastructure, systems, and tactics to ensure launch success
  • Demonstrated integrity on the job, including an understanding of relevant rules and regulations
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence across functions and varying levels of management 
  • Ability to navigate and be successful in a fast-paced, results-driven environment, managing through ambiguity
  • Willing to travel domestically up to 30% of the time and attend events outside of business hours (e.g., occasional weekends and evenings)

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
