Do you want to be part of the exciting revitalization of Detroit?  The soon to be open Detroit Foundation Hotel is looking for an Accounting Manager to join the pre-opening team!

Detroit Foundation Hotel is at the forefront of the renewal of the Motor City. A transformation of the former Detroit Fire Department Headquarters and adjacent Pontchartrain Wine Cellar building, The Foundation will be the top hotel in the market with authentic inspiration, design, and programming that respects Detroit’s past, yet is looking forward through its revival.

The food and beverage programming will include a three-meal restaurant and bar with approximately 200 covers positioned to be among the top restaurants in the region. The hotel’s restaurant will present iconic New American cuisine, and with space that will serve as an incubator for culinary students, up and coming chefs and visiting culinary influencers. The elevated bar program will focus on collaboration with Michigan breweries and distillers.

The hotel will feature approximately 4500 square feet of meeting space, including a rooftop ballroom and a unique podcast studio. The 100-room hotel is scheduled to open Spring 2017.  

In this position, the Accounting Manager is responsible for running payroll, ensure ledger postings occur in a timely manner, accounts payable and accounts receivable responsibilities, as well as resolving guest billing issues.

In addition, the Accounting Manager will be involved in the pre-opening process of setting up the department for success along with all other responsibilities assigned my management such as cross training and collaborating with other departments as needed.

  • Supervise the finance office and make day to day financial decisions in conjunction with the Controller of Finance
  • Ensure daily general ledger and sub-ledger postings in a timely and accurate manner
  • Complete month end processing regarding accurate Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivables
  • Act as liaison to other hotel departments and assist with finance department issues
  • Maintain and enforce finance, legal & compliance initiatives
  • Timely resolution of guest phone inquiries
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Controller
  • Conduct self in a most professional manner at all times to reflect the hotel standards
  • Provides undivided attention to each guest/associate resolving issues quickly and efficiently
  • Resolve all credit card disputes and charge backs in a timely manner
  • Watch for fraud and scams
  • Count daily deposits and maintain bank service pick-ups
  • Supervise and perform billing and collection efforts
  • Evaluate credit worthiness for all potential guests and client billing
  • Timely and accurate processing of payroll
  • Perform regular payroll audits while maintaining and enforcing payroll policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with Human Resource on payroll, benefit and associate issues
  • Be the liaison with payroll vendor on issues and concerns
  • Ensure proper cash on hand while enforcing all cash policies and procedures
  • Ensure integrity of books and records of the Finance office
  • Monitor and confer with revenue departments for potential credit issues
  • Reconcile vendor statements, perform weekly payables and daily invoice posting
  • Prior hotel finance receivables, credit, accounts payable and payroll experience
  • A 4 year college degree with an emphasis in Hospitality Management or Accounting preferred
  • A minimum of 2 years progressive related management experience
  • Anticipate and deliver exceptional service consistently
  • Intuitively service each guest, associate, visitor or client
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a focus on the details
  • Follow instinct and use her/his best judgment to create experiences for guests that are thoughtful and genuine
