The AMDA NY Campus, is searching for an Academic Department Director: On Camera Acting Performance.
This position reports directly to the Chair of the Camera Division.

Primary Responsibilities


  • Faculty Supervision
  • Course Supervision (please note, all courses in this category are scheduled from 5:30pm - 11:30pm Monday through Friday and may include some weekend commitments)
    • CAM240: Introduction to Filmmaking & Production
    • CAM251: Multimedia Performance
    • CAM252: Narrative Reel for the Actor
    • CAM253: Final Film Project
    • CAM290: Post Production Workshop
  • Semesterly Faculty/Course Assignment: Approval of Director's Creative Team Assignments
  • Addressing Student Concerns
  • Administration of policies and procedures
  • Support Faculty to Implement Canvas as Effective Teaching & Learning Tool Across Department
    • Ensure minimum standards for each Canvas course page is met across department
    • Support faculty in taking ownership of their Canvas course pages for Grading transparency, Course organization, & Student communications.
  • Faculty/Staff Supervision, assessment, and communications
    • Day to day faculty/staff supervision and support
    • Implement faculty/staff assessment framework
    • Survey data reviews with faculty
  • Faculty Evaluation
    • Support yearly (summer) faculty performance evaluation in collaboration with VP of Academic Affairs
    • Conduct semesterly faculty performance evaluations with Direct Observation, Canvas LMS Course Page Reviews, & Student Course Surveys, conducted at mid-point and end of each semester
  • Faculty training implementation. Faculty tied to evaluation
  • Participate in processes that systematically collect faculty input into curricular development and continuous improvement
    • Participate in regular division meetings (1-2 per semester)
    • Participate in regular ADD meetings (2-3 per semester)
    • Lead regular departmental faculty meetings (2-3 per semester)‚Äč
Academic Department Related:
  • Production Supervision including: Casting and manage creative collaboration between Directors, Assistant Directors, Vocal Coaches, AV Staff and production staff (when applicable)
  • Qualifying faculty candidates and faculty search committee participation
  • Faculty onboarding
  • Faculty course assignments
  • Teaching courses in the On Camera Performance Department
  • Faculty training administration
  • Final Production assessments
  • Course survey implementation
  • Grade Reporting
  • Curricular and co-curricular development

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree required, Master’s degree a plus
  • Advanced skills in LMS (Canvas)
  • 4-6 years Film directing and/or producing experience (filmed or live performance available for viewing by members of hiring committee)
  • Directing and/or producing in Higher Education a plus
  • Minimum 3 years of higher education teaching experience
  • 2-4 years academic administration experience required
