The American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA), with campuses in Los Angeles and New York City, is one of the foremost performing arts schools in the country. AMDA NY offers a two-year conservatory program in Acting, Musical Theatre, Dance Theatre and Performing Arts.

We are currently seeking to fill both full and part-time Cinematography and Editing Staff positions at our NY Campus. As Cinematography and Editing Staff, you will be responsible for the filming and editing of AMDA student film projects, student graduation performances, and other AMDA events. Also responsible for the set up, break down, and supporting the Acting for Camera classes at AMDA. Both Cinematography and Editing Staff report to the Unit Production Manager.

Primary Responsibilities

4th Semester Studio film projects
  • Cinematography
  • Location sound mixing
  • Producing
  • Collaborate with directors on locations and shots during pre-production
  • Location Scouting
  • Supervising student crew
  • Provide script resources
  • Coordinating between departments during shooting Student crew training
  • Training the other students in the cohort on how to assist with filming other student projects
  • Assistant editing
  • Log and sync
  • Assembly edits
  • Quality control
  • Titles and Credits
  • Rough Cut Edits
Camera Classes (Studio, Acting For Camera, Integrated) 
  • Camera Operator
  • Lighting set up and design
  • Audio Supervision
  • Set up video cart for educational student viewing while filming
  • Log, upload, and distribute classroom footage
  • Work in collaboration with acting faculty to teach and correct technical techniques for the students
  • Supervise distribution for props and set dressing from AV stock
Graduation Performance and Workshop Filming
  • Camera Camera Operator
  • Slate/Camera Log
  • Coordinate with Audio Engineer all sound needs
  • Editing: Log and sync, Assembly edit making sure all shots are there & represented for directorial consideration
  • Quality control edit with creative team notes
  • Final quality control
  • Upload of final edit to Vimeo
General A/V Special Events
  • Troubleshooting of non-film class AV needs
  • Dropping off/setting up addition AV needs as requested
  • Provide AV support during special events (open house, alumni panel, etc.)
  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience working in a higher education classroom setting
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with narrative cinematography
  • Familiarity with Interchangeable Lens Cameras and their operation
  • An understanding of basic lighting setup and design for film/video
  • Knowledge of basic location sound such as lavalier microphones, boom microphones, and portable digital recorder (Zoom H6 or similar)
  • Working knowledge using Adobe Premier Pro and Vimeo 
  • Experience in videography/cinematography of live events
  • Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Experience with Cannon C200 or the Cannon Cinema EOS line
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-camera team
  • Experience with other Creative Cloud Programs
