AMDA is currently accepting resumes for part-time teaching positions for our Speech and Alignment Department at the New York City campus.
AMDA is specifically seeking instructors with diverse experience teaching courses in Voice Production and Speech.
Primary Responsibilities
- Maintain current knowledge in subject matter areas as it relates to Voice Production and Speech
- A willingness to learn curriculum-specific material.
- Provide and maintain a professional atmosphere within the classroom.
- Communicate with students in a positive and effective manner
- Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules
- Create and maintain a student centered environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking
- Evaluate progress of students concerning educational matters and grading student work
- Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics
- Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member
- Maintain accurate academic records
- Utilize our LMS (Canvas) platform in order to sustain student engagement
- Consistent communication and accurate reporting for students and supervisors
- Contribute to school community, including:
- Committee Participation
- Active Engagement in required trainings and initiatives
- Viewing student performances
- Uphold AMDA’s core values of equity and inclusion in the classroom and commitment to an environment of student safety and support
Qualifications
- Master's degree (preferred) or Bachelor's degree (required) in a related field; commensurate performance/professional experience may be considered
- Candidates should have relevant teaching experience in a higher education setting
- Certification in or advanced working knowledge of Fitzmaurice Voicework, Linklater, Lessac and Rodenburg techniques preferred
- Must have a strong working knowledge of IPA phonetics
- Successful applicants will have demonstrated an ability to work effectively with diverse populations and varying proficiency levels
- Experience with Canvas LMS preferred
- An appreciation for the traditions of a performing arts academic setting
- Demonstrated leadership skills; style that emphasizes collaboration, teamwork, and facilitation
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service and providing a dynamic climate for life-long learning
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement instructional approaches with the effective use of technology.
- Ability to use effective strategies to engage students in their learning both in-person and online
- Ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints; ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people
- Have a commitment and sensitivity to, as well as an understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles
Position Information
- $40-$60 per teaching hour
- $35 per auxiliary hour
- This position is a part time (less than 29 hours per week), in-person commitment. All candidates must reside in the New York area or be willing to relocate. AMDA will not provide a relocation package.
Eligibility Requirements - Performance Credentials
- AMDA differentiates itself from other performing arts colleges by having students learn from "working faculty." Applicants must have performance experience within the industry; preference will be given to instructors with recent/current performance credits
- Applicants are requested to have both a teaching CV and a performance resume with the application
- Experience with a variety of styles and periods is a plus
