Job summary

If you are an efficient, effective and self-motivated project manager with a track record of bringing to life new digital project, and share the AJ+ passion for social justice-oriented journalism, we’ve got just the gig for you! AJ+ has built its reputation as an industry leader in video journalism for social media platforms; now, we’re looking to build on that success with a new venture exploring the opportunities in the text-based digital products space. Until now, we’ve not had a robust content web site or newsletter products. But we’re now recruiting a team of contractors to tackle that challenge

It will be an intense six-month commitment, working with smart, passionate journalists empowered and resourced to bring online an exciting new product aimed at having the same pioneering impact as AJ+ had in the social video space, but this time as a small-screen text experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • As the Text Project Manager, you will work under the direction of the AJ+ manager and the AJ+ editorial lead to help innovate new AJ+ products in the text journalism space.
  • You will be the keeper of the AJ+ text strategy file and its implementation schedule, convening and coordinating the requisite stakeholders to make the decisions required to keep the project moving on schedule; and to oversee the implementation of those decisions; identifying the key challenges that arise in implementation and testing, and chronicling the learnings and insights as we proceed, and integrating those into our strategy and workflow conversation and development process.
  • You will oversee the recruitment, hiring and onboarding of the requisite staff and/or contractors.
  • You will manage the development and implementation of the editorial and production workflows for the text product.
  • You will liaise between AJ+ management, relevant and Al Jazeera Digital Product Development management and relevant contract stakeholders to ensure they deliver on the development of the necessary distribution platforms for our text content in line with our strategic goals, and that our CMS solution is optimized and customized for our workflows.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 7+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Experience working on digital media products, coordinating across teams
  • Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail
  • Commitment to team work
  • Strong conceptual grasp of the challenges of digital publishing, and the changing strategic environment for publishers of digital news content
  • Experience coordinating development cycles and schedules.
  • Ability to think strategically and execute methodically.
  • Proven track record of taking ownership and successfully delivering results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
