Position Summary:


We are currently looking for a Mechanical Estimator to join our North York team. Reporting directly to Manager, Mechanical Operations, the estimator will be responsible for preparing comprehensive and accurate cost estimates for large- and small-scale fabrication projects. Collaboration with sales and engineering department will be required



Key Responsibilities

  • Participation and understanding of both design/build and build to spec contracts
  • Interprets project drawings and specifications, analyzes blueprints, specifications, proposals and other documentation.
  • Create sketches, drawings and specifications to meet client requirements
  • Responsible for accurate take-off of quantities from project drawings and specifications
  • Responsible for the preparations and documentation of project estimates following estimating policy and procedures.
  • Analyzes sub-trade quotations, liaison with subcontractors for clarification of issues
  • Estimate Preparation - labour hours, material costs; tender form requirements tool & equipment lists; scheduling; and compile bid packages for subcontractors.
  • Prepares bid bond applications
  • Costs out potential scope of work changes and bid to construction reviews.
  • Costs out potential additional costs claim situations
  • Tender closings i.e.; review of documents, compile proposal information, participate in closing meetings.
  • Customer follow-up of proposals.
  • Address any addendum’s, change orders etc.
  • Such other duties and responsibilities as assigned by his/her manager
  • Participate in turnover meetings with Project Management on successful bids
  • Site visits may be required on more complex tenders
  • Maintains tendering process and set up cost monitoring and reporting systems/procedures



  • Minimum 5 years experience within the construction industry and within an estimating department
  • Strong estimating background on large commercial projects
  • Fluent ability to read, interpret, and analyze plans, schematics, specifications, tender documents, contracts, as well as perform detailed reviews of subcontractor and vendor bids
  • Trade Certification and CET, or equivalent industry experience
  • Good familiarity with MS Excel, Word, MS Project
  • Strong network and knowledge of vendors and contractors in the GTA Industrial, Commercial & Institutional market
  • Ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders at all levels during the bid process and for feedback and additional opportunities
  • Experience in design-build/assist budget developments, walk throughs, project turnovers / kick offs, and various procurement activities
  • Excellent oral and written communication, attention to detail, and professionalism with a collaborative, proactive, and solutions-based approach
