POSITION: G.E.D PROGRAM COORDINATOR

CLASSIFICATION CODE: EXEMPT FULL TIME

DEPARTMENT: LIVING WITH PURPOSE

REPORTS TO: LIVING WITH PURPOSE PROGRAM MANAGER

 

STATEMENT OF JOB: The General Educational Development (G.E.D) program coordinator is an adult instructional teaching position part of the ABHS Living With Purpose (LWP) Program. The G.E.D program coordinator is tasked with instructing, tutoring, and managing ABHS clients enrolled in the G.E.D program to complete their General Education Diploma. The position is responsible for facilitating the successful placement of each enrollee in an individual course of study that will result in their successful completion of the four G.E.D tests. This position is primarily responsible for tutoring and teaching material that each individual enrollee needs assistance with to complete their course of study. After completing the training material, the G.E.D. program coordinator will assist with arranging the G.E.D tests and obtaining a G.E.D. diploma.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.         Manages a group of ABHS adult clients enrolled in the G.E.D. program.

2.         Facilitates the arrangement of G.E.D. placement tests including transportation for enrollees in the program.

3.         Facilitates the placement of enrollees in an individual instructional program based on their placement test results. This includes procuring access to instructional materials and computers.

4.         Communicates with each enrolled student daily to provide tutoring and instructional help as well as monitor their progress in completing the instructional program.

5.         Communicates with direct supervisor on the progress of each enrollee in the program.

6.         Evaluates enrollees that have completed their instructional program to determine their readiness to take any one of the four G.E.D. exams.

7.         Facilitates the arrangements for enrollees to take the G.E.D tests, including arranging for transportation.

8.         Abide by all applicable policies, procedures, and program standards of ABHS, White Mountain Apache Tribe, Indian Health Services, Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) and other pertinent regulatory authorities.

9.         Participation in all required ABHS training (not including clinical oversight).

10.     Maintain ethical policies and guidelines as outlined in accepted State ethics laws, rules, policies and principles and as outlined in discipline-specific code of ethics.

11.     Provide a positive role model to clients and staff through leadership, self-discipline, and genuine care for ABHS clients. All clients and staff members must be treated with dignity and respect.

12.     Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1.      Possession of a bachelor's degree in an education related field; experience working with Native Americans preferred.

2.      A valid Arizona Teaching Certificate (adult education) with three years teaching experience preferred. A valid AZ substitute Teaching Certificate is a minimal requirement.

3.      Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to speak the Apache language preferred.

4.      Demonstrate strong critical thinking, problem-solving and organizational and time management skills.

5.      Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work effectively with a wide range of adults and supervisors. Basic knowledge in motivating and encouraging adult learners.

6.      Valid Arizona Driver’s License and reliable transportation.

7.      MS Office proficiency and ability to correctly operate copy machine and proficient in online learning environments.

8.      Ability to pass all pre-employment testing, including, but not limited to, fingerprint clearance, drug testing and background check.
